Description
If he asks for more than 12 mil, I’d trade him. If we get some good pieces back, the team is still in a good spot.

If they were to trade Pettersson—I feel like they could get a much more competitive package than that.

To be fair that is similar to the eichel package. And eichel was locked up with term already

I don't necessarily think MUCH more, but certainly a bit more. I think something like a 2nd and/or mid-level prospect.

GMs were scared about Eichel's back and he hadn't put up even 90 points in a season. Pettersson is gonna probably be coming off back-to-back 100-point seasons.

I would assume that your asking for cozens because you believe as i do his 7mil deal will be a steal in a few years. In which case this is way better than the eichel deal. Krebs has failed to do anything of note in the nhl and tuch was on the 3rd line in vegas. Also while buffalo seems determined to fail every year I don't think anyone though adding jack eichel would lead to thier worst season in franchise history making thier 1st 16th overall. Instead of krebs on the bubble you get ostlund pure and untouched, instead of tuch entering the back of his deal coming from 3rd line you get a young dylan cozens whose locked up and plays as a second line center, your 1st will most likely be top 10. Every piece is better than the eichel deal.

And Eichel was a big question mark then with the back surgery he wanted to get vs what Buffalo wanted him to get. Petey has had a couple mild injuries in his career none that are career threatening plus Eichel has never had year like Peteys year last year. Petey is a more valuable player then Eichel is/was.

I do think with Buffalo one of Thomson/Cozens/Power would be important to Vancouver in the return. If Petey would sign long term Buffalo they might take. If those 3 are untouchable and it's going to be prospect heavy 1st in 24 would be a definite in 25 probably conditional.

A massive undervalue despite what the Buffalo fans say. He's one of the top 10 players in the league and will likely go to a contender not a bottom dweller. I can see a top young center prospect coming back the other way, as well as other pieces. If it did happen, and it wont, I could see NJD being interested and moving one of their top young centers.

You're asking why Buffalo wouldn't trade for one of the premiere centers in the NHL and speed up this rebuild that hasn't met expectations this year?

They had Eichel, that didn't help. So why spend 5-6 million more on Pettersson rather than keep Cozens, who is not a bad player himself

This is such odd logic. You can't possibly compare the Eichel situation here. The Eichel situation had to do with much more than his contributions to the team and Pettersson is a much better player than Eichel.

If you have a team with both Pettersson and Tage? Do you understand that rivals McDavid and Drai? Don't get me wrong, Cozens is a fine young player with plenty of room to grow, but Pettersson is hitting his stride. You make this swap and this changes the team dynamic overnight.

The Sabres had Eichel, Ryan O'Reilly, and Reinhart together and did not make the playoffs. You're claiming trading for Pettersson solves their issues... how? One guy taking up a significant % of their cap for an extra 30 points on top of Cozens who is younger and cheaper isn't going to fix anything. How much have McDavid and Drai won as well?

Based on their current pace for this season Pettersson would be adding an additional 56 points as well as a significant improvement in defensive play over Cozens

Real stats show he only has 20 more points than mitts and I wouldn't pay an extra 7 mill for a better defensive game, especially when Cozens isn't close to fully developed

You were talking about Cozens not Mittelstadt. But even if you want to compare Mittelstadt, their PPGs across 82 games comes out to a 38 point difference (107 for Pettersson, 69 for Mittelstadt). So it’s not just a better defensive game, it’s also a pretty significantly better offensive game. You’d be getting one of the top 10 forwards in the NHL who instantly becomes your best player and improves your team

Also for the 7 mil more I’m not sure if you were talking about Cozens or Mittelstadt, but if it’s Cozens then I don’t see Pettersson getting 14M

I have to call a foul here. Tage and Petey are not Mcdavid and draisaitl comparable. Not even close. I'll give you better than a past thier prime crosby malkin but mcdavid and draisaitl are much better. So much better. Not saying anyones not a star but tage struggles to hit a point a game, petterson is not as good as mcdavid.

I think you took what I said the wrong way. I wasn't meaning apples to apples, but moreso that very few teams have that kind of two-headed-monster combination. If you really look at the league, other than the Pens, Leafs and Oilers, how many teams have a 1A/1B on that level?
