Carson Soucy is a pretty great analogue for Zadorov (big, physical LD averaging ~17mins with some offense) and you guys just signed him for 3.25mil last year. The difference between them isn't 1.75mil and 2 years of term.</div></div>
I agree to an certain extent. Zadorov is more physical then Soucy but Soucy is more balanced. I do think if he wants term the cap hit should come down. I do think a 5 year deal should be 4-4.5m tops. But with other gms thinking he is the solution may push it to 5m.

It's a little high but not unreasonably so. Honestly Zadorov brings the toughness on the backend that the team lacks.
Though imo if Myers wants 3.75m rather throw the money at a different person who doesn't need to be kept in check or find a way to to open enough to bring back Tanev.
I also think Hronek is nice but might be smarter to trade him if we can get another good young RHD and recoup some picks. As his value is a bit inflated by Quinn having a potential Norris trophy season.

What Coudve Been
Karlsson looks fine he's close to the NHL so no real loss on Dahlen. Tkachuk would've done what he did in Calgary to us so we would've have Weegar and hopefully traded Huberdeau though he would be interesting on Miller-Boeser line. Also missing Rasmus Andersson instead of Sven Baertschi.
Benning worst traits as a gm was rushing prospects then when they weren't McDavid trading them away for Pennies on the dollar so yeah. Could've had either Guenther on Peteys wing or Ehlers (who I wanted us to draft instead of Virtanen). And I'd rather us have lost Markstrom for free then Tanev

While some Canuck fans will bite at the chance for the 2nd deal. I like Podkolzin too much he may end up as only a 3rd liner but he is physical and young enough he might be able to become a decent point producer. He is something we need more of and I don't think Veleno or Berggen bring enough of that for us to justify that and Walman isn't a defenseman that we are looking for especially on the Left side need to re-sign Zadorov more (need big physical PK defenseman to offset Hughes size.)

just a little different again
25k is a tiny arguing point for Podkolzin. And if it gets another year (or 2) on his contract should be worth it In the long run. Would be like arguing could've paid Höglander 1m this year on a 1 year deal vs his current contract which should be a steal for these 2 years.

Why is Carolina paying more then the Islanders to unload KK. He's a young defensive specialist. Would assume someone would take him for their bottom six without adding all the extras.

What do you guys think?</div></div>
I think that top line will get cheapshot until Petey is injured. I think most balanced lines would be:
Höglander-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Petey-Lindholm (I think if Petey is getting dominated on face-offs could give him a spell having Lindholm take them)
Mikheyev-Blueger-Garland
Lafferty-Suter-Podz

Wouldn't it make more sense to throw Reinhardts money (cause he's gonna get more) at Marchessault (should be less then 8.5m) who has chemistry with Smith. Vegas probably does not have the money for him.

Yeah I guess overpay is probably slight misnomer as us Van fans for last 2 years were being told would have to pay get move Garland. A 2nd would be Ideal but getting more picks and moving out of his contract maybe what we need to do in the offseason if we want to make room for some big adds/re-signings

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>I think there's a world where the Sens taking Garland makes some sense, but a 2nd is an overpay, and there are other ways for Ottawa to get a middle 6 winger that would be better asset management. I'd do the picks that Ottawa got for Tarasenko + Sokolov but probably not any more</div></div>
It is going to take an overpay for Garland as he is key player in our middle six and for the most part being the creator might work with the Tarasenko picks as we need more picks after how many we've lost.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Julius_Freezer</b></div><div>Canucks aren't using Silovs as a sweetener in a cap dump</div></div>
I think they would Silovs isn't going to replace Demko and rather have a veteran back up ( I'd like DeSmith to come back but think he's going to get same or more money then he is currently making) Silovs has potential but isn't a guarantee. Getting someone that management likes (Chmelevski) and could sign Kunin if he takes a payout. I'm also not against keeping Mikheyev as I do think he's going to be a lot better next year a full year from his surgery.

He was put with Pettersson to get him going so that last line is a bit misleading Garland has mostly played with Joshua and Blueger/Suter.
But yeah over the rest of the contract KK is more valuable in this season alone. I'd say Garland.

I was doing it assuming Norris gets moved for a bit salary relief and either a RHD or a starting goalie for Ottawa. If you guys want to improve on Solokov to like Ostpachuk (or add like a mid round pick) we could take Forsberg in return.

tough choices
I think for Zadorov if he wants to say the options are:
1 year 4.5m-5m, 2 year 4-4.5m 3-5 years 3.5m-4m 6-8 3-3.5m. I do think he prefers term over higher AAV.
If Joshua wants more then 3m let someone else over pay him. I like him but he hasn't proven his offense can come without Garland. And hasn't Hronek turned down 7.1/7.2 supposedly.

It's doubtful would take a good offer for us to move him. This would be close probably would want a decent prospect with the pick. (Ie. A young forward that could compete for 4th line in the preseason)

Can I ask a honest question (I'm not trying to troll)to islanders fan how is Wahlstrom worth a 1st round pick? I know he's young and a high pick but his best season is 13 goals and 24 pts while playing in the NHL for 4+ years I know goal scoring numbers are lower and did like Beauvillier on the Canucks but I would think his Value would be a 2nd round pick at best

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>It will cost more unless there is a team struggling to reach the cap floor. Think back two years ago, the Canucks sent the Hawks a 2nd round pick to take two years of Dickinson at $2.75m, the Hawks also dumped Stillman and his $1.15m contract on the Canucks.
Mikheyev is on the books for 2x $4.75m.</div></div>
You are talking about the covid cap Era where cap moved minimal at best cap this year jumps 4m and next year is supposed to be the same. There is only going to be one or two teams that want to unload cap unlike last few years where 10+ teams were trying to so paying a 2nd to unload him isn't worth for us who already have fewer picks. If Allvin wants to unload him I could see to San jose for Chlmevelski straight up or with a minor prospect at best as Mikheyev is a very useful player even at 4.75m.
Issue I see with the roster is it becomes a very regular season roster as the 1st line will get bullied in the playoffs (I know Guentzel has good playoff numbers also played with 2 of the best players over thr last 20 years)

I don't think a Necas deal works for Vancouver right now unless salary is going back, as we are arguably in a worse cap constraint so need Podz and Lekkerimaki more then Necas.

Targets 2025
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>However you slice it, they're paying him like he plays 18-19 for two more years. The Canucks have only about $25M next season to sign 10 players. Half the D are UFAs, Hronek needs an extension and half your Cs will also go free. For them to add a player like Buch, they would need cap help. And by adding Buch to the same depth chart that Garland sits on, Garland is simply a luxury item. Who would presumably get even less than 14 minutes. For 5 million bucks per. It would make no sense to try and keep him.</div></div>
Vancouver would rather keep the true duos that are/have formed of the top 3 lines more then likely as
Miller/Boeser, Petey/Höglander, and Joshua/Garland are one of the reasons we are fighting for Presidents trophy not picking in the draft lottery this year.
As for salary Garlands 5m is not hurting Vancouver has Podkolzin who is looking fine as a top 9 player and should be cheap to re-sign. Joshua is one we really don't want to lose but might if someone offers him 3m+. Blueger would be nice to come back but if he prices him out Suter wouldn't be a bad replacement on the 3rd line and Aman while offensively struggling is great defensively as a 4th line center. Bains looks close and could start where Hoglander did last year on the 4th line. In theory Cole and Myers could comeback on cheap 1 year deals (1-1.5m) Hronek will get paid and if it's too much can deal him to another team for a solid return as he is only an RFA. Zadorov might get a raise but I think he security over cash so might be able to keep his salary down without dealing anyone Vancouver can bring back the D they want and possibly sign a good vet RHS D (ie. Tanev) if they want to split Hronek and Hughes.

At least let Hughes win a Norris before shafting him. I could see Garland being someone Islanders may overpay a bit for (ie. Wahlstrom+ a decent pick) that may get Van to deal him to you guys. He isn't going to be part of a cap casuality deal though.

Why give up on potential in McDonaugh (he's literally a rookie powerforward who is showing progress) for a 4th liner that is okay but will probably never be anything more.
