Sabres get a sure thing with Zegras and ducks get a great prospect that has a lot of promise. We have so many prospects and I like Kulich and Ostlund more and we can add another elite prospect at the draft

I would target almost anyone other than Zegras and he is far from a sure thing, this season being proof. He is severely overrated and as much of a 1 way player as you could be

Zegras isn’t actually a sure thing- he’s oft injured

Also, as much as i like Savoie, the Ducks probably want another piece on top since he is unproven & not yet outta juniors even

I wonder if we’d be better suited using Savoie (or whoever) to get us a top4 RD
Forward is a position of depth for us, so not a need really

Why do ppl on here not think highly of Savoie?
He was picked in the top10, and is absolutely killing it in juniors this season….

D+2 season playing against younger competition. Hasn’t replicated in international or best-v-best. On smaller side.

But it’s not that I am low on Savoie…it’s just that I don’t think Zergras would be sold at a discount since he has run into injury troubles this year. Same reason Sabres fans wouldn’t accept a discounted return on Cozens this year.

Not sure calling him oft-injured after playing 156 of 164 games the last 2 seasons. He’s had 2 injuries in his career, they just both happen to be this year

I agree with the trade not making sense though. I just don’t see how it addresses anything for ANA, and Verbeek is one of the last GMs I would expect to make a move for someone listed at 5’9”

News flash, Buffalo homers -- Anaheim wouldn't trade Zegras for Kulich, Ostlund AND the undersized Savoie.

There's a qualitative difference between a proven first-line LW with back-to-back 60-point-plus seasons before the age of 23 and three prospects who have one, zero and one NHL game on their resumes, respectively.

Yeah, three years down the road one, two or all three of them may prove to be first-class talents. Or they may not. We don't have to wait to see how they or Zegras perform.

Peyton Krebs was drafted in the same round as Zegras, and has 88 fewer points (58 to 146) in 18 fewer NHL games (182 to 200) than Zegras even though Zegras has been injured for all but 5 games this season. Kulich (drafted 28th overall), Ostlund (drafted 16th overall), Savoie (drafted 9th overall) and Isak Rosen (drafted 14th overall) all have bright futures but all have yet to make their mark. Potential is not the same as proven performance.

We shouldn’t want to target Zegras anyways
We’re already loaded at forward & if we are gonna trade away any good prospects we have, it should be to fill specific roles/needs we have, not just bring in more of what we already have

That small of a sample size doesn’t mean $h!t,

Easy pass for the Ducks. Savioe is an undersized center that would be no higher than our 3C. If by the slim chance the Ducks move Zegras. It’s for a winger of elite caliber. Not this.

Savoie was picked 9th overall, just like Zegras
There’s no reason at all to think he doesn’t have a high ceiling

In the last 10 years, there have been 284 forwards drafted in 1st round

By mid-way through their D+2 season, only 23% of them were still in juniors.

Top-20... less than 17%
Top-10....less than 6%

And that includes guys like Michael Dal Colle with nearly 100 pt season, Zach Senyshyn and Kieffer Bellows scoring 40+ goals, Logan Brown with nearly 1.5 ppg.

The two best players who were still in CHL at time were Suzuki and Barzal.

He could turn out great, maybe even like Suzuki or Barzal...but tearing up juniors at that age isn't really an indicator of success.

6 games? I dunno...I think I'd like to see more

Savoie
AHL: 5 pts in 8 games
NHL: 0 pts in 1 game
WJC D+1: Cut
WJC D+2: 1 pt in 4 games

Zegras
AHL: 24 pts in 20 games
NHL: 13 pts in 24 games
WJC D+1: 9 pts in 5 games
WJC D+2: 18 pts in 7 games (and MVP)

I don't this is worth much of a discussion....Zegras is a good couple of tiers above Savoie.
