Hawks would do that, but I think something expanded a little bigger might make more sense for both sides. Hawks are really thin at RHD after Jones. At a minimum, think the Hawks would want Timmins added in (otherwise they are likely needing to trade or sign 2 RHD next Summer). I think something adding Liljegren or Niemela with the Hawks having a mass of LHD prospects (all of which eventually won't have a spot in the lineup) to offer as a chip, or retention on Murphy's deal, or more 2nd/3rd round picks then they probably want to use.

Hawks get the 1st they probably need to consider move Murphy (otherwise they hang on to him to mentor the young LHD coming through and be a vet leader in general). Hawks use a position of prospect strength (LHD) to fill a weakness (RHD). Leafs get a middle pairing RHD that paired well with McCabe and move a prospect that with Murphy, Liljegren, and Timmins in place really doesn't have a spot in the NHL for a couple of seasons.

Team is much more well rounded. Good job for having limited money. I don’t think Gio could be in top 6 though come playoffs(he has slowed a fair bit). Maybe get a Seeler type or let Lagesson take that spot with Gio filling in where needed. Getting rid of Brodie is huge IMO but don’t think you will get two 3rds without retention.

The Hawks are really thin on RD. End of statement. Jones is the worst contract in the game. Murphy is only good because he's the best defensive defenceman on a team that has none. Including Murphy who isn't very good.
