So the question is what would it take for Vancouver to trade our top center and one of the top scorers in the league, who is 25 and entering arguably the prime of his career, from a team who is just starting to contend? I think what you have suggested is a bit naive. But if we were to assume 1. The Canucks do move him (which wont happen) and 2. Chicago can put together the right package (bearing in mind they are probably competing with 20 other clubs), then I would say the following:

Still interested? Bedard is great and we are proud of him being from Vancouver, but he's still unproven in the grind of an 82 game season, year over year. Teams will adapt to him next year. So there needs to be compensation for a proven entity for a unproven one (in the NHL). Thats what it would take and it starts with your top center for ours. Pettersson is an RFA so no discounts and also bear in mind he would be less inclined to join a rebuilding team. He's already said he wants to win. Hope that helps.
