delusional! Why would the Canucks give you Lafferty back? Move on.
That's the tough thing as a Leaf fan. Moving on.
There are times when you aren't sure how a signing or trade are going to work out and after a bit of time you are happy, disappointed or indifferent by the result.
...and then there are the OBVIOUS moves that should or should not be done...
As Leaf fans we watched Mason Marchment go from a great signing as an undrafted 6'4" 200+ lbs LW on a league minimum contract to be dumped for a 5'8" "skilled" forward. It was obvious that he was getting better and better every season and he was going to be a offensively productive LW with size and snarl. Leafs' management didn't keep him.
Zach Hyman always wanted to be a Leaf. Played hard in the corners, great a puck retrieval and had the hockey IQ to play on the top line with some of the world's top players. After management signed 3 forwards to over $33 MIL a season, Hyman was rumoured to want $5 MIL and they felt that was too much to invest in a 1st line forward. This is a guy who went from 4 goals to 10, 15, 21, to pro-rated 34 goals and is currently on pace for 54 goals. It was obvious to everyone that he would be a BARGAIN even though he would be in his mid 30s when the contract was finished. Also, Leaf fans know of the management's "Robidas Island" for bad, older contracts.
Did you know that McCann was a Leaf? In Pittsburgh he went from pro-rated 17 goals to pro-rated 27 goals when the Leafs traded for him. He was on an obvious upward trajectery and was left exposed so that we could keep Holl. HOLL!! Signed a $5 MIL contract in Seattle and scored 40 goals last year.
Lafferty is fast, 6'1", plays on the PK, RH shot, has a bit of an offensive upside and can fight. Instead of putting Reaves on waivers as an old, slow RW who has really been NOT fighting for a few seasons, they let Lafferty go for virtually nothing.
As Vancouver fans, how can any of you relate to a mismanaged team?
