Keeping Domi and Bert
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>maxdomiundies</b></div><div>domi can stay at 4m, bert it will depend on his playoff run, he looks sloppy but still creates somehow, i have mixed feelings about him</div></div>
Yeah, I would top out at $4 MILfor Domi. He hustles, tries to be creative but doesn't have the skill to always pull off what he is trying. He's a great player to pair up with a shooter like McMann.
Bert has those 'intangibles' but seems to lack hockey sense. He rarely anticipates the play and gets to where the puck will be going, he rarely is anticipating a creative pass from a teammate and skating is below average. Even if he does well in the playoffs I would hope he is not offered over $4 MIL...especially where McMann is a better skater, more physical, is 1" taller and 25 lbs heavier and reads the play better at $1.35 MIL.
I am a bit worried that Tanev is too old to invest in.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Doubt you'll get Monahan at 3.5mil and Domi will not settle for what hes making now.
Its a growing cap and Domi, with his 6 teams in 8 yrs, will want to get paid more.
Just dont think you'll get 2 second liners having very good seasons for 6.5mil
and that goaltending is not good/reliable</div></div>
Yeah, I suspect Monahan is going to want to capitalize on this outlier season he is having. This year he has a shooting % of 20.5, last year 12.5 and the year before was 10.9
McMann is pro-rated for 19 goals this year. Monahan is pro-rated for 24 and is playing with better players and 175% more icetime per game. I think I would try McMann in that position and see how he does.
Domi might want more but he isn't worth much more based on his play in Toronto and other teams besides that one year in Montreal. If he wants more than $3.5 x 6 years then I would let him walk and give his position to Holmberg.
I agree with your assessment on the goaltending.

There is a glaring and obvious issue with this lineup...

I mean it's over $4 MIL above the Cap...and I don't like Dermott or Brown

If Dubas was still GM of the Leafs I could see him trading for Karlsson. With Treliving, I see him trading assets for a dman 6'4" or bigger rather than skill.

I hear you.
This is not disrespect to Colton but if the Leafs basically re-sign players to similar contracts for next season then we only can spend around $5 MIL on a RHD and that ices a 20 man roster NOT a 23 man roster.
Parayko simply makes too much money
The following season when Tavares contract is up and comes off the books the Leafs have to re-sign Marner, Knies, McCabe and others as well as sign a 3rd line center with what's left over or Tavares at a much reduced rate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JK74</b></div><div>Chicago is thin on the right side and Murphy is part of their leadership core. With retention costs even more.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>First off - I don’t think Murphy is who the Leafs should target. But having said that, Hawks are 32nd in a 32 team league. They specifically brought in vets to “shield” the rookies - I would trade anyone of value over 25 & then sign vets on one or two year deals in FA over summer (like Foligno & Perry this summer). Competitive window is 3-5 years away so keeping Murphy - if he has much value, which we probably would disagree on - is not good strategy imo</div></div>
I would probably lean more on Mitch Junior’s side. Murphy is in his 30s already and getting assets for him now while signing a UFA defenseman costing only cash in the off-season is a better use of assets. Chicago is years away from being competitive

Marner Must Go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave26</b></div><div>Marner is signed for one more year. Tkachuk has 4 more years and a very reasonable contract for what he brings. Hockey is not just about points. Brady is physical and a great leader and makes players around him better and doesn’t have the talent around him that Marner does. Marner is playing with the best goal scorer in the league. Brady plays the better overall game and isn’t a defensive liability. Brady is a point per game player who brings a lot of other qualities to the game too. He’s a great leader. And I’m sure if he was playing with Matthews he’d have a ton of assists as well. So your comment tells me all you know about hockey is what you read on the stats line.</div></div>
Some of your points are bang on and some are way off IMO.
Marner is signed for one more year. Tkachuk has 4 more years and a very reasonable contract for what he brings. **AGREED
Hockey is not just about points. Brady is physical **AGREED
and a great leader **DISAGREE - he is passionate but that has gotten the better of him to the detriment of his team and fellow players quite a few times in his career, even this year. When I think great leader then I think Sakic, Yzerman, Sittler, etc. He ain't that calibre.
and makes players around him better **MAYBE
and doesn’t have the talent around him that Marner does. **DISAGREE. - The only exception is Matthews...which is a HUGE exception I concede...but looking at Stutzle, Giroux, etc compared to Nylander, Tavares, etc the talent is there for Tkachuk to maximize if he had the Hockey IQ of Marner
Marner is playing with the best goal scorer in the league. **Agreed - you got me there obviously
Brady plays the better overall game and isn’t a defensive liability. **STRONGLY DISAGREE - I actually am NOT a Marner fanboy but ouch!! That is so wrong and it is my biggest bone of contention with your opinion.
Brady is a point per game player who brings a lot of other qualities to the game too. **AGREE
He’s a great leader. **YUCH! NOPE!
And I’m sure if he was playing with Matthews he’d have a ton of assists as well. **AGREE. - that's fair
So your comment tells me all you know about hockey is what you read on the stats line. ** So your comment tells me that you are bang on with some of your perspective and biased with others...just like I am

I would love the 2nd pairing of Middleton/Liljegren BTW.
That would bump McCabe to the 3rd pair for at least this season and next which would allow him to dominate most matchups.
I like Chychrun and it would be a tough decision for me to choose 5 year older Murphy or 6 year older Larsson I think.
Marner, 2024 1st (TOR), 2024 3rd (NYI), Timmons for Tkachuk and Chychrun.

I had read that many in the Sens management and some of the veteran players have not been happy/satisfied with Tkachuk's immaturity as a Captain. That's just an aside...
Player vs Player...Tkachuk is physical, fights and will put the puck in the net out of sheer determination. He doesn't come close to Marner's skill, skating and most importantly hockey IQ. If you are looking at BPA then it would have to be Marner BUT there are fewer power forwards in the league...especially young ones so I think, like Tom Wilson in Washington, the massive, goal scoring, power forward is looked on as more desirable than the higly skilled RW
That being said...the trade is terribly lopsided for the Leafs. :D

Small Changes
Actually that is not accurate regarding Martin Jones. He did clear waivers October 9, 2023 but on January 1, 2024 he had to be put on the roster. Up until then he had been brought up and down on emergency loan from the Toronto Marlies. At this point he would have to clear waivers. I suspect that the Leafs would lose him on waivers.

I really agree with all of your thoughts except 2.
I am okay with Maroon and could see how he could be better impact on the team than Reaves but could take or leave him.
I don't like Dumba that much. I would have tried to re-sign Schenn to $1.7 MIL although looking at the contracts Gudbranson, Lyubuskin and Gudas were given I guess it was only natural that some NHL GM would give Schenn $2.75 MIL

We truly need a top 3 dman. We don't need another 7th D. Our depth on D is actually VERY good. But we are missing 1 higher end guy to move everyone down.
So I don't love the lyubuskin add either. Even though I like the player.</div></div>
For a 3rd line LW I would go for ARI McBain over Greenway.
I agree regarding the defense as well. The Leafs need another top dman. I don't care LHD or RHD. We can work around it, just get a top pairing dman. Move any forward or asset not named Matthews to make it happen.

I was just about to post a AGM asking who would you prefer on your team Nylander or Tkachuk or Tkachuk....or put another way $11 MIL + or $8.2 MIL or $9.5 MIL.
Marner is the same thing. I would prefer Marner's skill and hockey IQ over both of the Tkachuk's everyday of the week but not at almost $11 MIL. The difference between Mitch and Brady (almost $3 MIL) is an elite 3rd line player depth-wise.
...and don't use the tax thing for the crazy Leaf player contracts...Brady pays the same taxes

I was kind of thinking that as well on 2 fronts: 1) The Blues cannot lose a Center as they don't have many 2) The Leafs have 2 3rd line centers with Domi and Kampf and although I like Kampf's game, hockey IQ, contract, etc MUCH more than Domi's I sense Kampf would be the easier one to move. The pick might not be in the top 80, Abruzzese hasn't proven that he's an NHLer yet and Lagesson is barely one.</div></div>
I almost see Jake M as a poor man's Jake M. For Jake M we paid LA Kings a low 1st Pick for that June 2019 (ended up being 22nd overall), an 22 year old AHL "prospect" LW and an overager OHL defense man.
Jake Muzzin was a 30 year old 6'3" 219 lbs LHD that hit a lot and had half decent offensive flair. He couldn't fight when things got rough though.
I could see Minnesota wanting a high 2nd (which we don't have) or a low 1st and an AHL/Major Junior (not star - Abruzzese? McMann? Steeves?) prospect for almost 28 year old (Jan 2, 1996) 6'3" 219 lbs LHD Middleton who, although he doesn't hit as much as Muzzin did, plays a rugged game and is developing his offensive instincts (31ga 5go 7a 12pts 46hits 69blocks). Unlike like Muzzin, Middleton can fight really well when the going gets rough.

- I am a bit concerned that Perry needs for focus on his non-hockey side of life. I would leave him alone until he re-connects with the hockey world. It sounds like he was struggling really bad.
- I think Crouse is highly regarded in Arizona so I would look to see if McBain would be available for an overpay.
- I am still worried about Tanev's inability to stay healthy. It is due to his style of play not bad luck.
