<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>"too much" is subjective. what player coming back replaces Wilson in the current caps "win now" window?

Liljegren? not really
Mikheyev? solid but not better than Vrana or Ovechkin
Kerfoot? how much better is he than Eller plus we have Mcmichael who needs a roster spot next year... Protas and Lapierre
late 1st.... wont be NHL ready for maybe 2-4 years?

Wilson and Kuzy were the 2biggest catalyst in the capitals winning the cup. imo. hard to get on board with dumping him for anything short of nylander</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>I have to agree with you here. I don't think this is a bad package for Wilson. From Toronto's point of view sure, but not for the caps.</div></div>

I have to agree as well...even though I am a Leafs fan.

Kerfoot and Mikheyev are 3rd line borderline 2nd line forwards, Liljegren is a 3rd pair borderline 2nd pair dman and the 1st pick is top 8 protected...which might not matter as the Leafs are looking for their 1st round pick to be 32 OA.

I see Wilson as a 2nd line forward that has been pushed into 1st line duties sometimes who can score 20 goals, plays hard every shift and will fight anyone. It is a lot for the Leafs to give up but I am not sure if it balances out what Washington is giving up. Maybe but I'm just not sure if it is worth the price for either team.

BTW I would love for the Leafs to have Wilson in the top 6

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Not even... Tavares at 7 years 11m is actually better. Matthews was never going to sign for less. MRner wanted 9.5m after a 69 point season...

This is all just ridiculous.

Marner contract could be better everything else is fine.</div></div>

Actually I would have prefered not seeing Tavares at all and trying to work out the on-ice/off-ice things with Kadri at a significantly less cap hit. Tavares is obviously a much better player but not almost 3 times better.

Maybe someday Matthews will be able to carry this team to a Stanley Cup but he can't even get the Leafs past the 1st round or past an offensively challenged team in a play-in round. Don't you feel that by the time he is able to mature to that level that his current deal will be expiring and he will be a UFA able to demand any amount from any team he wants to play for?

Is allowing the player set their value better than looking at market value for a small forward that is outplayed by TBay's Point @ $6.75 MIL? 33 points this past playoffs. How many points has Marner scored in his CAREER in the NHL playoffs? Marner is being paid as a superstar and is less than a year younger than Point.

How many Stanley Cup teams are carrying $10+ MIL players? How many non-Stanley Cup calibre teams are carrying $10+ MIL players? I think there is a direct correlation.

I hear what you are saying in regards to what the Leaf players wanted and felt they are worth. I just can't believe that you agree with them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lyle_Bubas</b></div><div>people acting like the we're stuck with the Tavares contract smh

In his last 2 seasons as a leaf, Tavares had 73 goals, 75 assists (148 points) in 145 games.
In his last 2 seasons as a leaf, Kadri had 48 goals, 51 assists (99 points) in 153 games.

Playoff stats
In his last 2 playoff series as a leaf, Tavares had 4 goals, 4 assists (8 points) in 13 games.
In his last 2 playoff series as a leaf, Kadri was suspended and cost his team the series two years in a row. (1 goal, 3 assists in 6 games, two 5 minute majors at critical points in 2 games)

I would take Tavares every single day of the week. You're also forgetting Kadri has 2 seasons left before he needs a new contract at 32 years old.
Tavares is locked up until he is 34 (5 more years). He brings effort, professionalism, and skill/goal scoring ability that Kadri never could.

I wish we had Kadri on the team, I hate that we traded him. But, between the two guys, I'm taking Tavares all day every day</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Kadri 2020 playoffs: 9 goals + 9 assists (18 points) in 15 games, including 5 GWG's.

Yeah, you're good....

Keep in mind that in a cap league the comparison isn't just Tavares vs Kadri... it's Tavares vs Kadri + $6.5m capspace (eg. that's equivalent to Landeskog+Graves this season, or Landeskog + an ELC like Makar/Kaut). So again, I take the Kadri contract any day of the week on this Colorado team.</div></div>

That's the tough pill to swallow as a Leafs fan. I had been waiting for that playoff performance for 3 years. It would have at least propelled the Leafs past the Bruins last year. It was so frustrating when he got suspended both playoffs.
