Rebuild

Description
This team is so inconsistent and needs to pick a direction. This is what a rebuild could look like including offseason moves and moves from the previous year/TDL.

I don't think they will ever fully tank but they should at least sell high on some players before it is too late.

  5. Choix de 7e ronde en 2024 (CBJ)

Deal made at previous trade deadline.
I have proposed this before. The only change based on feedback is I took out a 2nd round pick to ensure the Blues would get Hague.

STL
  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2024 (TOR)
  2. Choix de 7e ronde en 2025 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Deal made at 23-24' TDL. Scandella extends in Toronto for cheap.
3.
STL
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2025 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
Blues move out Hayes so they can play more prospects and Boston gets an extremely cheap middle 6 center.
BOS
  1. Hayes, Kevin (1 750 000 $ retained)
4.
STL
  1. Oshie, T.J.
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (WSH)
Détails additionnels:
Pick is top 5 protected.
Washington upgrades from Oshie to Saad and the Blues get out of an extra year on the Saad deal. Oshie likely goes to LTIR at some point for the Blues.

Alexandrov needs a change of scenery and Washington could use the center depth so he is added in as well.

Caps decline this rather quickly, especially if Oshie is likely to go to LTIR. Saad isn't playing well enough this year to warrant a 1st round pick from DC and the Capitals have enough middle six forwards as it is. The Caps have plenty of cap space right now so there's no reason to dump Oshie and he'd just use his NTC to block it anyway, since he wants to spend the rest of his career in Washington.

Can’t see the Canucks doing that, it’s just a lateral move that doesn’t really make the team better, would rather just stay with what we know has been working instead of taking the risk of changing it.

Leddy and Vrana do nothing for Vancouver. Leddy would be a bottom-pairing LHD on this team with 4m X 3 years left. He has a negative value for Vancouver. Vrana is one-dimensional scorer, whereas with Garland he's one of our best two-way guys even with his lack of scoring.

Bortuzzo is the only player I'd be interested in from Vancouver's POV, but you're not getting Hoglander for him. Comparables have him around a 5th in terms of value.

No need for Bertuzzi as 3rd pair D.
Leddy is past his best due date.
Overall nothing good about the trade.

Vegas just straight up isn't trading Hague. His value is at an all time high and he's definitely worth more than just a second.

I don't know that there is a pressing need to get rid of players like Hayes and Saad. They are sort of stop gap players who are fulfilling their role Their term is probably short enough that they would be out or pending ufas for our next contention window. In terms of making spots on the roster, I think that clearing out vrana and Kapanen (or even Buchnevich if someone overpayed) should be enough for the amount of prospects we have contending to break roster.

Bolduc and Dean should get shots if they start to pick things up after a slow start in the AHL, but beyond that I don't know that twe have really any other NHL ready prospects yet.

If the goal is to go full rebuild you probably have to sell Kyrou and Thomas at some point too, because we would honestly probably be giving up on being competitive for their primes (per Armstrongs own words.) While the idea of drafting in the basement is always super enticing, a half to full decade of basement dwelling sounds a lot less fun. I think that there is a legitmate shot to sneak into the playoffs this year and while this team is definitely not the same team as in 2019, I dont think that rebuilding is the direction we should go as a small market.
While the mushy middle isn't a spot you want to be in for a long time, I do think that Blues can remain a wild card team throughout this retool and build enough depth to be a Stanley Cup contender. Especially if Robert Thomas keeps developing into 90+ point forward.

Right I told him that it’s going to be prospects, not roster players.

If Brady Tkachuk sign with Blues when he’s 28 years old (as Thomas) UFA, would be nice.
