I like the age and where Broberg is in his development for Calgary, I think it would be a good target but I don't think the Oilers make the trade with the potential that Broberg develops into the D man a lot of Oilers fans see him being.

We have so many defensive prospects Broberg is of no interest, and Tanev is worth more than 2 3rds

Get ready to hear that it costs more to dump Campbell, 3 more years at 5M.

There will only be a handful of teams that can handle that contract, Chicago is one of them. I'm not convinced a late 1st round pick will be enough for a 5 Million AHL goalie.

This is my personal opinion but Edmonton doesnt really have any young guys I am that interested in. Maybe Holloway but other than that I dont think they have any top tier prospects.

Frank Seravalli said the cost to get rid of him is a 1st and a 3rd. The thing people don't realize is that you can buy him out and only have a 1.6mill cap hit (not sure how long). But that's something that can easily be done by a team like San Jose or Chicago. Oilers shouldn't have to give up more imo.

Hawks easily decline. A single 1st isn't enough to move that contract. At least not to the Hawks.

You double the amount of years left on the contract so 1.6 x 6 hypothetically the team trading for Campbell could hold onto him for a year to make the buy out 1.6 x 4 but 4 years is still a long time.

The team acquiring Campbell will need to be cap compliant at the time of the trade and then they could buy him out..so it still limits your trade partners.

Campbell's buyout in June would cost $9m spread out over 6 years. Not horrible if it's your own bad contract that you handed out, but still probably costs more than a 1st and a 3rd if your the team trying to trade that contract away.

If I was the Hawks I would be willing to take Campbell’s contract for the following:

Edmonton’ 2024 1st and 2026 2nd round picks, Holloway and Akey.

If they don’t want to give up the prospects then the cost is at a minimum two first round picks.

Obviously he’s worth more than 2 3rds that’s why one of Edmontons best prospects is in the trade

It took a late first to dump Cal Peterson at 3 years left for 5 million and he is just buried in the AHL which is probably what will happen to campbell and that would he 3.8 off the cap for 3 years.

Thats a good comparison age and ability. But the trade wasnt as simple as a late 1st.

Philly took Sean Walker, Grans and a 2nd in the deal.

Walker has been floating around some trade rumours, if hes flippped its a 1st, 2nd, plus what ever Walker is moved for. Grans was a recent 2nd round pick.

If you waited until the deadline to pull this, the cost to finish off what Campbell is owed for the balance of this season and then the buyout over the Summer would exceed 10 million real actual (as in not pretend cap) dollars which a 1st (likely late) in THREE drafts is not even in the right zip code of the cost to dump an AHL goalie making 5 large for 3.5 more years . And because an Oiler homer like Seravelli says so, does not actually make it so. If the '24 1st is on the table, that will create a little more interest in that it could be decent because of the slow start (I still don't see it as even top dozen when all is said and done....especially with the ability to make subsequent moves minus Campbell), but you are going to be either adding a significant piece (ie...better than a 3rd), retaining, or taking back some bad money/cap or some combo of those 3 things.

Well if Frank Seravalli said that’s what it cost then that must be what it is. Oh wait he is just a reporter & not a GM of a NHL team & therefore doesn’t have any say in how much it costs. Sorry if that came across as snarky, was going for sarcastic.

Not exactly. Peterson had TWO years left not 3.75 that Campbell currently has left. The actual trade was 2 million retained (indirectly on Provorov's contract but noetheless retaining 2x2 as the net for the Kings), a 2nd, a prospect that was a recent 2nd and whatever you view Walker as (you could argue at the time of the trade he was a little bit of a dump, but I would have considered him closer to a neutral value). You have another year plus whatever remaining in this season when/if you trade him and again the Kings ate money in the deal to move Peterson.

ALSO, the term on Peterson was only two years.

ALSO ALSO, LA had to retain 30% of Provorov's contract to make it happen, which is a $2.025M cap hit for two years.
