I know Bruins fans think Ullmark is so wanted by the Oilers, and yes would be a great fit- but, he's only signed for this and next season, and Bucci(along with Chiclets) have presented this as a potential trade option- but it's extremely unlikely they deal Leon for Ullmark, IF they deal Leon for a goalie on Boston it would be Swayman- but the other parts would also need to align with possibly replacing Leon long term... And Ullmark has trade protection, Swayman doens't soooo he would be the likley return as a goalie...

Every team declines. Not enough for draisaitl. Hawks aren't paying for any players right now. San Jose asks for atleast 1 more first just to take Campbell.

Even if the value was correct, EDM is not moving Drai for futures. They need immediate help, otherwise its a total rebuild.

The Hawks already have enough 4th liners, no way they are throwing a 3rd round pick to Boston for another one.

If they trade Draisaitl it's a full rebuild. McDavid isn't staying after they trade away the only help he has.

2 1sts/2nd/Ully/Debrusk/Grizz/Lysell is a an overpayment without Campbell being involved. With Campbells full cap hit coming back…🤣🤣🤣

Leon is only signed for 1 more year on top of this one as well and the presence of Campbell makes resigning him a more painful endeavor than anything Edmonton would be dealing with.

I’m of the opinion that if you can acquire Leon, you do what it takes to get him if you can agree long term on a contract

The reality is there is zero chance that a deal like this happens unless there is an ability to discuss extensions with both players and that Isn’t until the offseason

If I’m Edmonton, I’d look for the best goalie I could get for Holloway and a second round pick. I see all the trades trying to dump Campbell or acquire a great goalie … and I believe the more prudent actions. Is to try to keep the first rounder unless you are convinced it is just the goalie. realize that a Stanley cup contender capped at the knees by skidmark they call goaltending is painful, but the objective should be buying enough competence to where you can push for a playoff spot,

It's a lot of stuff that's for sure. Not much value there for arguably the 2nd best player in the league. If they decided to trade draisaitl, it's a full rebuild. Only pieces they'd be interested in are the firsts, which would be very late firsts, and lysell. Boston wouldn't have the futures necessary to acquire draisaitl.

Conversely if you wanna say they're not gonna rebuild. They magically convince McDavid to stay after trading the only help he has. They would want a superstar player coming back in the deal and no it can't be a goalie. Grzelcyk and debrusk are fine depth pieces but not pieces you build a draisaitl trade around.

The package is more than what Gretzky pulled and he came with 2 valuable long term assets in Krush and Marty. Not a long term cap dump that devalues the package and would cost significant assets to move.

Ully/Debrusk/1st/Lysell/Merkulov for Drai and Campbell with 50% retention would be much closer to realistic.

If there is no cap dump then Lysell/Merk would likely need to be replaced with Poitras.

BTW the 3 1sts that EDM got in the Gretzky deal were used on Jason Miller, Martin Rucinsky, and Nick Stajduhar. Which means the throw in mid level player Gelinas ended up being more valuable than 2 of the 1sts. 1sts generally don’t end up being as valuable as known assets. It’s hit or miss.

The most valuable thing in the Gretzky trade was the $15 Million going back, which can't be done anymore.

All of the players meant nothing and the picks were an ok addition, the Oilers owner NEEDED money so he sold Gretzky.

Gretzky was traded for a 100 point player, multiple firsts, and $15 million (around $39 million today). This package isn't even close to that in value. DeBrusk is a ~50 point 2nd line winger who's a UFA after this season, Ullmark is a good goalie but only has a year left on his deal, Lysell is a former first round pick who's struggled in the minors and probably maxes out as a middle six winger, Merkulov is the same except he's three years older, and the first probably ends up being late in the first round. The value isn't even close to the Gretzky deal, even without the cash. Which one of these players is supposed to be Jimmy Carson?

100 point players were not uncommon in those days. Krush had 90 point season FFS. Much higher scoring league then. 24 qualified goalies had a save % higher than .910 last year. Patrick Roy’s .908 was tops in the league the year of the trade.

Break it down.

3 1sts = 2 1sts 2nd/Grizz.

That leaves Carson/Gelinas for Ullmak/Debrusk/Lysell/Dipietro.

Then factor in Krush and Martys value v Campbell/3rd. Campbell is one of worst cap dumps in hockey right now.

The cash, as someone else pointed out, was extremely valuable but impossible to calculate today.

You really can't even compare trades 40 years ago to today. The conversion changes everything. I hate when people say "well Gretzky only got this so" it's totally arbitrary today.

But according to this trade they don't end up keeping Campbell anyways, they dump him to San Jose. The cash is an incredibly important factor, which you compensate by upping the amount of 1sts/prospects.
DiPietro is garbage and has basically no value.
Grizz is not worth a 1st round pick, not only is he an expiring UFA and just not worth a first round pick, but it's been public knowledge for over a year now that Boston has been trying to dump him to clear cap space.
In 1987-1988, 12 players reached the 100 point mark. Last season, there were 11 who did the same thing. They are just as valuable today as they were back then. This package is just not equal in value at all, you're essentially trading role players and a great goalie for a top 5 player in the league.

Agree in principle, but how often does one of the leagues top 5 players get traded? There are not many comparables.

Ya, and in this scenario they pay another 1st to move Campbell. Even more cost. So now it;s 3 1sts, 2nd, Ully, Debrusk, Grizz, Lysell, from Boston perspective.

Boston has not made any concerted effort to trade Grizz. Not sure where you get your info from. And i said Grizz and the 2nd was equal to a 1st.

This is too much for 29 for 1.5 yrs but I was thinking Boston and 29 make a lot of sense for a part of this package
