Canucks couldn't turn that down. Besides the four young assets, the Canucks would have an additional 12 m to cap.

Canucks would need Dach included with Reinbacher. Ideally the 2024 1st instead of 2025, but it depends where the Habs pick ends up

Just to be clear. Reinbacher, Dach, +2024 1st. No Beck, no Harris?

I think there would be other pieces included (possibly Beck and/or Harris, possibly other players instead), but the frame of the deal would be Dach + Reinbacher + 2024 1st

Not sure Dach makes sense. If he's out this entire season, how can the two teams agree on his value? Would also be seen as "risky" after knee surgery. I think Nucks fans would not want Dach.

Well, thank jonh514. I enjoy your honesty in your posts and comments even if we disagree.
I guess from a Habs POV on your trade., Would the Habs be better keeping those four assets and spending 12m on UFA? But of course a "bird in hand "in this case Pettersson, might be better than futures.

Would be tough to determine that, but the Canucks would definitely need either a youngish center that can play in the top 6, which Dach fits that criteria, or a very high end center prospect (which Montreal doesn’t have)

I agree. It's fun to disagree when the arguments are coherent. You definitely make this place better sir!

I would equate Pettersson to Matthews for context. I think he's gonna be a top 10 scorer in the league through all 8 of those years. (EDIT) Consistent game-breaking ability (proven not potential) is nearly impossible to acquire. So this is a no-brainer for the Habs in my eyes.

Well, the Canucks would get centre Beck and a RHD Reinbecker and more. Surely with the 12m in cap, the Canucks can attract UFA to replace Pettersson....yeah not as good.
Pettersson will be one year away from UFA.....seems like more than fair offer....although it could be tweeked.

Personally I’m not very high on Newhook. Don’t think he’s much more than a 3rd liner. Watched a lot of Avs games the last 2 seasons and never really impressed me a lot

In my opinion this is arguably less than what Eichel got, and Pettersson is a better player than Eichel and isn’t in need of major neck surgery. So he should get a better return

Reinbacher = Krebs (Krebs was the 26th ranked prospect by the Athletic at the time of the Eichel trade, Reinbacher was ranked 20th this year)
1st = 1st
Harris = 2nd

Probably get better assets….Harris not much of an asset. The cap space comes with any trade.

I was comparing how they were viewed as prospects. Obviously now Reinbacher is better, but at the time of the Eichel trade Krebs was a very highly regarded prospect

Krebs was never seen as high as that, they are at least a tier difference, if not more.

I personally think Reinbacher is a level ahead of where Krebs was at the time. Krebs was a top prospect, but not a top 5 draft pick level. That being said, Pettersson is better than Eichel, and isn't coming off a neck injury and a questionable procedure.. So I think his return would be at least one good piece more than Eichel's. I don't think this is far off of a very good proposal, assuming that Pettersson was to demand a trade of course. Part of my problem is that the pick is 2025 but..

I would counter with Pettersson for Reinbacher+Newhook+Beck+2025 1st.

Exchanging Harris for Newhook gives the Canucks two shots at a top six C, and while it removes a chunk of C depth from MTL's pipeline, with three young or prime aged Cs EP40, Suzuki, and Dach it should be a cost they can swallow.

Appreciate your perspective. I would add that 2024 is a significantly weaker draft than 2025 by all accounts, especially if you are looking to draft a Center.

That's a good point, but that also means MTL is another year of development stronger, and that the prospect is likely another year away. That only matters because the primes of the remaining guys like Miller, Hughes, Boeser, Demko, whomever starts to close more and more. Plus if we got Newhook and Beck, hopefully we wouldn't necessarily be looking for a C.
