Not good

Description
That was not good. Don't want to overreact but not good when you have a huge roster turnover like that and get players specifically to keep leads and this happens. Lose the same way as last year. Not super encouraging. If this continues then I think we need a systems change.

Pens haven't been successful for about five years. IMO all those long term, costly contracts to aging players doesn't bode well for the future. How can not look at the roster and not think the Pens are just a middling team?

It is so funny to me when people make comments like this about the penguins future. They have been the most successful team of the cap era. What makes anyone think they care about the immediate future beyond the current core? Every pens fan I have talked to wants to maximize what little time we have left with two of the best centers in the last 15 years. Not throw it away so we can rebuild a year or two sooner lol

Weird.... I didn't realize dubas was the coach of the penguins too ? The issues tonight were not from roster construction but from coaching....

Ah yes, a classic Toronto fan trait. When the guy leaves, they never liked him anyway.

looking at this roster and saying middling team is just ignorance.

pens will need a couple of weeks playing together to become the team dubas has in mind. its just one game. no panic

To maximize the little time, I feel like they should of targeted a better goalie and better defensive defenseman than Karlsson

I certainly don't mean throw it away. But geez, I know you Crosby and Malkin but generally a weak core of wingers surround them. And with those expensive NTC on aging players it would almost impossible to trade those players anyway

They wouldn’t want to trade any of them lol that’s the point? And their winger group really isn’t weak . 4 guys that regularly score 20 and 3 of them that can put up 30 or more . Maybe we have a different definition of weak idk . But anyone that actually paid attention to the penguins last year and in the off season knows that the top 6 is their biggest strength.
They don’t have a ton of young talent I’ll give you that , but that’s the price a team pays when they are the best team for the last 20 years ….

Karlsson wasn’t brought in to play defensively lol. Ryan graves was . No one who watches hockey would claim Karlsson was a defensive defenseman

They didn’t really need more offense. If Graves is the best defensive defenseman you bring in, then yikes

Huh where did I say he was their best defensive defenseman?? They brought in two defensemen over the summer . You made the crazy statement that Karlsson was brought in to play defensive lol. Anyone who watches hockey at all knows that was not the case
Graves was brought in to be defensive and Karlsson to help the power play . Pretty straightforward stuff here my dude .

Yea and I’m saying there was better options lol. Just like the NYR bringing in Tarasenko and Kane at TDL when they didn’t need either

Yup I'm putting this one on coaching. The roster this year is significantly improved from last year. Haven't been coached well the past 2 years. It's constantly attack. We need to learn to play team defense and implement a new system.
