Rangers fans says that he's trash but will ask for the moon if he gets traded, many 1sts and a top prospect.
Habs fan will prob lowball and say a 3rd and a B prospect.
His actual value is def a mid 1st though atm, this year will define if he's actually worth a 1st or not.

You taking Drury and Laviolette as gm and coach at the expense of Hughes and St. Louis. You get a top talent that’s not been given a proper chance and Rangers get a competent Gm and coach.

Ya it’s absurd most of their positions and takes on him.. that being said the OP and most people here are too clueless to realize there’s no offers happening. 31 teams would be stupid to take the gamble with the high price demanded. 1 team would be stupid not to just die by the sword. If he’s a 2M 3rd liner for a few more years after this deal then so be it. You need 3rd liners at good rates. Makes no sense to get worse lottery tickets than the one you’re sitting on. If he’s ever moved it’s in a play for a better player not prospects and picks.

    Are you actually serious?

    lol

In fact, as recently as today, Larry Brooks from the NYR press squad, has totally torched Laffy and said he looked TERRIBLE.

Now, Dach is actually only 9 months older than Laffy, plays center (a position Montreal needs badly) and is showing a steady progression, to the point where he looks, this pre-season, like a true potential 1st line center.

Guhle is 4 months YOUNGER than Laffy and looks poised to become a solid first pairing D, who has all the tools: skating, hitting, offense, leadership.

And apart from having been selected 1st overall, Laffy doesn't look good at all.

    Again:
    Guhle for Laffy: Habs decline.
    Dach for Laffy: Habs decline.

    Not even close.

I can tell you, 100% certain, that the Habs are declining either of those players 1-for-1 for Laffy right now.

Does MTL really need another winger? Unless they truly believe Laf can still become a star I don't see why they would target him.

    Habs dont want him.

What is this sites obsession with trying to force francophone trades. Its lazy bigoted and not even something the habs have done regularly in several decades.

Aside from that point, Laffy's value right now is a bit toxic. Seems like a hot potato. I wouldn't come close to him.

As for the Habs, I still regret not drafting Cooley or Wright first overall in 2022; and not doing some strong trades to draft Will Smith in 2023 draft.

Habs have an excess of LHD with the emergence of Nordliner, who is an example of why you should never write a prospect off (even though I did) and also a reason why you shouldn't give up on Lafreniere.

Guhle is too much, Xhekaj isn't going anywhere so I think Harris and Norlinder are on the table, with Harris likely holding more value. The habs have too many wingers to add Lafreniere, but they have young wingers on cheap contracts that they could send the other way to make room such as Ylonen or Heineman.

So I think you build an offer around Harris + Heineman and maybe a draft pick. Rangers likely don't even consider that at this time but maybe that's where it's heading if Lafreniere doesn't figure it out soon.

Cooley was like 5'10, Wright was a 2way, habs wanted a offensive C w a bit more size, Smith fit the bill but habs won a bit too many games to make it happen, in the 2024 draft theres only 2 C I'd want, Celebrini (obvious) or Catton, 5'11 170, def let him mature physically though, hopefully he gets up to 6'1 190. habs had too many small forward.

This (maybe with a smaller or not pick protection)

Which is a little bit more than the Dach or Newhook's return.

Or Harris and Monahan (and maybe a pick) a bit later during the season when they realize they need a seasoned center

Still haven’t forgiven him for trading Buchnevich for nothing… He has been just what we’ve been lacking ever since he left. A great top 6 rw under cost control that can do it all. Drury has put the Rangers in a mess that might possibly even cost them a spot in the playoffs.

Laviolette on the other hand has done nothing good since the 2018/2019 season, only managing to stagnate a great Nashville team and help the elite Washington team age terribly fast. Since reaching the final in 2017, he has only won one series which was in 2018. If Rangers got him 4/5 years ago, I’d be excited but his last 4 seasons has been terrible.

i thought it was gorton that traded buchnevich no? and at that time pretty sure buchnevich had a large contract so if it was drury perhaps me was just trying to clear some cap/bad contracts given by gorton...but i feel that laviolette is a better coach then gallant and i truly believe the only reason he got fired by washington is because of all their injuries and the front office not bringing in much talent(depth)...

Drury became the GM on may 5th 2021, the buchnevich trade was on july 23rd 2021. At the time when Drury got appointed, he had tons of cap space to resign him(he was an RFA coming off a 2 year bridge contract).

Regarding Laviolette, I sincerely hope you are right but I have low expectations.
