No, it was a trade. Tkachuk was allowed to negotiate with any team since he was RFA....Both team didn't go the offer sheet route, so they made a trade. Calgary made a good trade one year of Tkachuk for one year of Huberdeau, one year of Weager and a first. Huberdeau and Weager were not negotiating with the Flames before the trade. Of course Huberdeau signed that offer. What a disaster for the Flames

I said framework, so knowing first if they even want to resign with the team acquiring them and then how many years and cap hit so they fit them in their cap structure before pulling off the trade otherwise the acquiring team is going in blind to find out the player has now plan of staying there and will test the UFA market for certain teams
