<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>I don’t agree with your assessment.
1st. While Sturm is what he is (9-13G 20-35P) he is also fast hood skater well above average face off guy and one of the best PK guys in the league, to me he is clearly better than Ellers and will be even more so next year. (Sharks suck so you gotta use the eye test not the numbers!)
And Benning is a big upgrade. But if you guy pass that’s not an issue as another team would jump on this! RD and depth C who are both good on PK are always people of interest to clubs.</div></div>

You may not agree with my assessment and that's perfectly fine, however as I mentioned I haven't watched any Sharks games and probably will only watch 2 of their games all year. That being said I still see Sturm and Eller as similar in production levels throughout their careers and think that moving Eller would end up hurting more than helping unless he is moved for a more scoring option that still brings a defensive side to their game. I do not see Sturm being an option for that.

I wouldn't mind acquiring Benning and would be open to doing a swap of Ruhwedel for him and say add a 3rd/4th round pick to the deal.

I do not think it is necessary for the Pens to give up their only really depth scoring option and get back a player who does not shoot the puck (which would only add to Pens depth problems of not having any scoring). Especially when I have seen Calgary posts sending Dube to the Pens which imo is more upside than trading for a guy like Sturm

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>I mean when you're looking at a 3rd/4th line role, Sturm fits that mold MUCH better. Sturm is a high energy player, great on the forecheck, ELITE penalty killer. He doesn't have that offensive upside that Eller does but I don't think Pitt is really looking for that right now. Also slightly better cap hit and the age is more of a factor for next year. You can reliably count on Sturm being the same player next year, whereas at 34 Eller could really drop off next year</div></div>

I'll keep it real I really haven't watched Sturm enough to know what his fit would look like, however what I have watched of Eller on the 3rd line for the Pens would not be easily replaceable in terms of chemistry. The way him, Big Z, and O'Connor work together has made them into a line that can be trusted in all situations defensively and offensively. My fear would be you lose the offensive side when you add in Sturm. Additionally, you would lose Ellers presence in the locker room which he appears to be in a leadership role (in terms of pecking order probably 5th behind Sid, Geno, Tanger, and Karlsson).

As far as next year I even stated in my original Sturm is a few years younger, but isn't really a prospect level talent isn't really developing anymore, so what you have to look at is what is the likelihood someone like Eller falls off tremendously. Which given Eller's style of play (which isn't really physical and has never been the best skater on any team) I wouldn't expect him to fall off as rapidly as someone who posses that physical or speed game.

The slightly better cap hit you're looking at 450K difference which isn't even league minimum.

All of this I still feel like no need to make the move for Sturm at least with Eller as the piece returning to the Sharks.

The only possible move I see that would vastly improve Penguins situation is finding a way to not dress 77 night in and night out and addressing the 3rd pair defense.

I highly doubt any team accepts these deals as they heavily favor the Penguins..... Unfortunately I don't believe the Pens have the capitol necessary to even out the value on all three. They probably have enough assets to make 1 of the 2 FWD trades work.

However, IMO I wouldn't do either. While both of the potential targets you have chosen to trade for are young and would give the Pens something they don't have and could definitely use I don't forsee management making the necessary adjustments to the trades to acquire either one. In order to acquire this they will cost assets.

Seeing how Dorion throws around money I wouldn't be surprised if the Sens make a cap dump trade sign Pinto to 1 year around the 2.250 mil mark and then extend him for a much higher AAV afterwards for the following season when cap rises. In order to obtain since Ottawa really does not have to move him and he can't be offer sheeted cause he is a 10.2 RFA its going to cost a first and A-B level prospect who is NHL ready. The only first the Pens have that they can actually trade '26 first. It would not be smart to move that pick as that is when you are really going to have to start adding to your prospect pool as at that point Sid Geno and Tanger will be approaching 40 (I would believe out of the 3 the retirement order will be Geno, Sid, and Tanger). The only seemingly close to NHL ready prospect the Pens have is Poulin and he's a B- prospect at best. Rules out acquiring Pinto.

Tomasino a 22 year old winger who is putting .5 pts/gm at the NHL level is not going to be traded for a D- prospect in Nylander and C- prospect in Smith. A more realistic approach to acquiring someone with Tomasino's potential is again a 1st or a similar style prospect (which if you have why trade in the first place). If there was a trade to pull the trigger on in which the '26 first was used I wouldn't hate it as much if they used it to acquire a player like Tomasino. However, it would look more like: Tomasino to PIT Nylander to NSH 2026 1st to NSH and one of the 2024 7ths to NSH. In order to get to closer value. Again though I do not believe that Nashville is required to make this move as a player like Tomasino allows new GM Trotz the option to retool instead of full blown rebuild. Still think Nashville would say no.

Buffalo has no need to move Comrie other than he is waiver eligible. However, they could send one of their fwds who don't have to clear waivers down and carry 3 goalies wouldn't be the worst option as bot UPL and Levi are extremely young with minimal NHL experience.

The Pens are not in a terrible spot while I think current construction is at best a wild card team there are options that do not cost assets that are available to acquire at the cost of just cap space that I think will be the route that Dubas and co. take.
