A cap dump, meh pieces, and a single 1st doesn’t come close to getting Pettersson

Start with Dach, Reinbacher, and your unprotected 2024 1st

Massive underpayment on both contracts.

Nylander is looking for 8x$10.5M
Pettersson is looking for 4x$13M, $11.5M is really the lowest I can see him signing.

You should told Maple Leafs to drink some before the playoffs if they want to finally make a run. It’s been a while since you didn’t reach the conference final.

A 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a 1st rounder from 2022. Trust me when I'm usually hard on Habs fans for their shenanigans, but what are you expecting the return to be for Pettersson?

Easily? A 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a 1st rounder from 2022?

What kind of return do you think they get for Pettersson?

Nah… I’ve seen OTT fans saying they will win the cup and now multiple MTL ACGMs saying they will make the playoffs… At least with the Leafs, they have the roster to make a deep run (no guarantees they’ll make the most of it) and that’s the theme with Leafs fans this upcoming year…

2 firsts a second and a third? That's slightly more then what Brandon Hagel got. Petterssons a young top 5 centre lol

I'm talking in general Leafs constant loony trades on here. Definitely the worst on here, maybe tied with MTL fans.

Just saying this deal isn't as laughable as people are letting on. It's pretty close to what the return will look like if VAN is looking for a futures-based trade.

And sorry dude, he's not a top five center. So just stop that nonsense. I appreciate the great season he just had, but let's talk in a year from now. Right now there's quite a few ahead of him.

EDIT: Also, the Hagel trade was the exception, not the rule. Just like the Chiarot trade a few years ago. Tampa notoriously overpays in trades for guys like that. Look what they gave up for friggin Jeanot.

A late 1st, a guy taken in the late 1st who isn't anything special, a 2nd, and a 3rd. That's not much for a guy who is a top 10-15 player in the league. Eichel got a 1st, similar prospect, 2nd, and a solid middle-six forward and he was having experimental neck surgery for a potentially career-ending injury. That's pretty much the same return as here. Even if Pettersson demands out like Eichel he'll get a better return based on the fact that he isn't facing a potential career-threatening injury.

So again, my point is this offer isn't that far off from what a deal may look like. Yeah, some tweaks may be needed, but this offer isn't very far off from what a deal may look like. You saying "easily" is just being dramatic.

You could very easily make the argument Pettersson is a top 5 Center. The only ones for sure ahead of him are McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, and Draisaitl. You could argue Crosby and Hughes ahead of him, but it’s not egregious to put him ahead of them

And if Pettersson is dealt there will be at least 1 high end piece included. This offer has 0

Same thing with every other fanbase so IDK what you are talking about… Leafs just have the most fans in the BHL by a wide margin making the numbers more skewed than it actually is

It's not egregious, but it's also not accurate. Hughes is 100% ahead of him. Over the last two years we've seen the game open up A LOT, so we've seen crazy upticks from players that aren't necessarily sustainable, career years from older players, so to me, you need to wait one more year to make that statement. I'd put Barkov and Zibanejad ahead of him, as well as Tavares. Is he a top 10? Yes, but not a top five.... yet.

And please don't get me wrong, whatever issues I have with VAN fans on here doesn't skew my opinion of any VAN players. I think Pettersson is a superb player who's got a very good 200ft game. Just not top 5 yet.

I'm not one to go along with group-think, but trust me, if I created a poll on here the worst fans on capfriendly as far as the most overvalued lop-sided trades, TOR would win and at least be tied with MTL fans. After that are Sens and VAN fans, and the drop-off after that is steep. Every fanbase on here has their homers, but those four are by far the worst in that category.

Yeah, but if we are going proportionally, Toronto doesn’t have as many as most other fan bases… There are just so many of us and we are impossible to bandwagon the Leafs compared to a Pits for example

I’d put him ahead of Hughes but can see the argument for having Hughes ahead. Maybe Barkov but at this point I’d put Pettersson ahead. But he’s definitely ahead of Zibanejad, and Tavares isn’t even close to being ahead of him

He's not definitely ahead of Zibanejad. Zibanejad is more complete player with other intangibles Pettersson simply does not possess. Zibanejad may be one of the most underrated players in the NHL.

Anyone putting Pettersson ahead of Hughes is being a homer. No if, ands or buts.

Tavares' consistent body of work is enough to put him ahead of Pettersson, but like I said, wait a year to really have this discussion.
