Description
I'm against trading Jarnkrok lol
also I feel like they need a good 3rd liner if they trade Jarny, we can't have Robertson playing RW in the playoffs
idek about anything with the leafs at this point, the lines, the trades, the defense, the cap, everything it confuses me
Can I hear from a Canes fan: Is pesce worth trading for?

Why would you ask him? He thinks Brodie is a cap dump. Don't even bother interacting with that nerd.

damn well then he's not worth it 😅
I thought he was better than Brodie, but I don't watch many Canes games unless its the playoffs and if I do I'm not really paying close attention to detail

He's marginally better offensively, worse defensively. Significantly more physical tho.

Klingberg signing still confuses me. This trade tells me Leafs fans feel the same. Dumba not in Toronto also confuses me.

I wouldn't trade Brodie+ for Pesce. It feels an even swap.

Brodie was the best defensive defender last year but that is likely a fair offer but why do you have Pesce and McCabe playing the opposite sides

Klingberg was signed because we needed more puck movement from our back end. Rielly is the only one really able to effectively get the puck up the ice.

We also lacked a PP2 guy. Rielly is fine as a QB but his shot is hot butter, Klingberg is effective at walking the line and wiring one to the net

What about Lili? Feels like he could do that. PP2 isn't going to see a ton of ice time.

Idk if Pesce clears the front of the net but he definitely doesn't hit. Leafs don't need to trade Brodie for a clone.

Pesce's like Brodie on Steriods. Pesce's MILES better offensively, he's a lot better in transition, he's not as physical as Brodie. Pesce's skill set isn't his strength, it's his zone denial. He ranks in the top 3 percentiles or something like it for entries denied. Plus Pesce is younger, cheaper and a RHD, not a LHD.

Klingberg was signed bc Rielly stinks as a PP quarterback, so I’m assuming Klingberg will give Rielly minutes to rest so he can be better… It worked with Barrie (I think that was the 72 pts in 82 games year)… As for Dumba, I think the Leafs tried to get him but didn’t want to commit a ton of money so Dumba tried to wait for the best offer he could and teams pulled out as a result, leaving only AZ.

Lilly switches from being played a ton and being in Keefe’s doghouse… They also need a veteran guy to teach Lilly offensively as Lilly is very good defensively already

Leafs have tended to go with Reilly as the the only Dman PP. Hence not much time for other Dmen on the t PP. Gotta think Klingberg is gonna see lots of PP time, either replacing Reilly or those two guys as a pair.
I wouldn't worry about Liljegren seeing much PP time. Gotta think he is capable. He played 18 minutes a night last year, so he quite capable.
I don't know why he played so little in the playoffs last season. McCabe and Holl were brutal against Florida. Liljegren and Gustaffson were good in their tenure in the playoffs
Hoping LIljegren stays healthy for the Leafs and his sake. He's a bargain at 1.4m, and his second RFA contract is due next summer.

Brodie literally ranks #1 in the league in zone entry denials.

Pesce is not as good as Brodie. Maybe he will be next year if Brodie takes a step back but historically he hasn't been even close.

In what model? The best I can find Brodie is 91st percentile in zone denials. He's incredible defensively, but Pesce's better in that regard. Not to mention, Pesce's FAR better in the offensive zone and in transition. He's FAR better. He's the much more desirable asset and it's not close. Brodie is a good 2LD ideally. Pesce is a borderline top 10 RD in the NHL. He's a monster on the puck, he's a monster without it. While Pesce probably has a little ground to make up to Brodie defensively, the pure gulf in class elsewhere just demolishes the debate here.

I go off our internal private model but even a quick search JFresh whose cards are the most common has him 100 percentile for Defense and 99 percentile for zone denials last season.

For reference Pesce is nowhere near Brodie in defensive play

Our internal model does rate Pesce better defensively than this JFresh chart but to argue Pesce is better defensively than Brodie needs to be done using poor analytics (not accounting for quality of competition/teammates) or the eye test. The numbers just don't back it.

I'll also add that your rating of Pesce is very wrong.

If he was rated that highly he would have been trade by now. When he does get moved don't be surprised if the return is low (even lower than what Brodie is traded for) if they both move
