If Matheson perform like he did last season then Toronto would much rather have him and the cap space that went with it. Matheson could instantly become the desperate defensive depth they lack all those year.
But not sure their a scenario where Nylander is traded to MTL.

Before Habs fans crap on this deal or say he's like Drouin (where the hell did that even come from?!)

Watch this and see how many goals and assists he produces in the crease and in the slot. If it's not clear... Drouin never went there...

They are not desperate for defence. Haven't been for years. And Matheson is not remotely close to Nylander's worth.

You can be sure that the Leafs would spend that 3m in cap to upgrade the team immediately which would be the purpose of the trade.
I'm thinking of winger Tatar or something like that

Habs fans are all right! While you wallow (a few years still I think) in mediocrity and irrelevance (Leafs were there too so no shame, way the league is built) - you think leafs will gift wrap one of our better players to you 😂. Even better you think Willy would prefer to play in Montreal over Toronto; clearly the Leafs could afford that deal and even add an extra year. Just preposterous but appreciate the laugh 😆

I get it now you that guy. The grinch who got the absolute knowledge of averything. Must been a blast being around you in day to day life. You could learn the dialogue. Exchanging is opinion with people not imposing them. You are not the only reference in term of what good or bad. You might not lime it but that doesn’t mean everyone is wrong expect you. Open your mind a little bit.

My AGM notes did not show up. (maybe because I tried to link the original post) I was just posting a Leaf's roster to the John514 original AGM. Those comments where John514 from his post

So I would hate for the Leaf's to trade Nylander. I think the Leaf's should keep him unless he doesn't budge from his $10M+. Even then I think they are better to keep him for the run and let him walk next summer.

BUT in this scenario the Leaf's get 3 good young pieces and have $4M in cap space to address any other needs.

IF Nylander is not willing to budge from his salary demands the Leaf's might need to move away from him.

This trade could equal the 3 pieces plus the cap to add Patrick Kane, Tatar or someone else via Trade.

Are you implying that any Leafs fan who disagrees with your perspective is "not a true Leafs fan?"

Led the league in slot/net front goals just a couple years ago. It's something he does on a regular basis. He's also got a really strong base and protects the puck incredibly well and does tremendous work along the boards. People who think he's soft because he's not aggressive and doesn't hit really don't have a clue.

Honestly I feel at least 1 if not 2 of the plus 5m players need to be traded to add more depth. And Nylander is the best option because he is valuable and has a lower cap hit ,plus his attitude and not re-signing is just annoying . If all they can get is a couple good prospects and picks then I agree you could add Tatar UFA or another trade to add players needed. Brodie is another good option for trade who I feel is still good but not able to play 1st pair minutes anymore and does not really fit the defense we have . To me those 2 are the obvious choice in trades. People who always say you can't trade Nylander because his offence can not be replaced are sadly mistaken. I do not think that trade would be the one I choose but it's not horrible as an idea or starting point.

Lol just waiting for anyone to disagree with you so you can lash out eh? That's all this is, an opening to attack for some bored Habs fan. Enjoy the bottom of the east again sir.

I would take what you read in the media about what he wants with a grain of salt. Most is speculation and negotiating.

I would hate to see Willie go but based on the return there are ways to replace his offence.

If in the above scenario you added Kane when he is healthy and if Guhle could step into the top 4. the team would be better off.

Keep in mind this also allows you to keep Timmins, Järnkrok etc in the fold. and you have 2 1st round picks in 2024.

Nylander may be elite, but hes a winger who about to get paid 10m. Id much rather add a few picks and pieces and go for Pettersson.

1 of them has the potential to be a top 10 pick
