You not are clearing the cap needed to ice a roster for Calgary. We need to clear cap, not add.

This makes no sense for the Jackets. The only reason i could see for us trading for Brodie is to take advantage of the Leaf's situation and get him for basically free. We dont have any need for another RD. We also arent going to carry 3 goalies that cant be sent down to the AHL.

Its gonna cost you ALOT more than that for a Cap Dump. Everyone in the league KNOWS you need the money and you're gonna get GUTTED soon for it. There are better teams to dump cap to become compliant but not here as we are already in a jog jam on the right side.

Toronto fans are gonna get angry at this but this is basically what the cap dump trade is gonna look like because lets be honest with how Toronto should be you are basically buying a late 1st round pick for $5mil which alone is kinda expensive.

2 years ago this may have been close to fair. Today, a defenseman who appears to be badly regressing, with a 5 million cap hit on a team that is badly over the cap, and an actual salary that is even higher than his cap hit, will be lucky to get a 4th round pick only. He is a borderline cap dump.

Everyone can agree flat cap sucks hopefully the players are able to get paid next year as this is getting a bit ridiculous

lol 4th round pick. he had a rough series against florida but so did about half the roster, before that he was our undisputed best defensive defenceman just like he has been for the entirety of his contract. i love how rd is the most coveted position in the league, unless its a leaf rd in which case we gotta dump a first for the privilege of getting rid of him.

if the leafs had to "dump" brodie, they already would've bought him out because his cap hit would be $0. there's a big market for him even if you're too bitter to acknowledge it

i remember this website telling me the leafs were gonna have to move assets to dump engvall at the tdl because we were "so tight to the cap" last year. then he goes for a 3rd and gets a 7 year contract. same thing with kerfoot, who supposedly had negative value until it came out that st louis was willing to trade barbashev for him. funny how that works

If Brodie was bought out his cap hit this year is 0, his cap hit next year is 2.5 million. Pretty big impact for a year that Toronto needs to sign 2 of their bigger contracts, and presumably with a Murray buyout on its way that is going to add another 2 million to next year's cap number. You probably think Toronto can still trade Murray for positive assets do you? I do admit that I didn't think Engvall would get a 3rd back, even if it was a future 3rd and not the 2023 draft. But them same team that traded for him gave him a 7 year deal, that supports the poor decision making in NY, not Engvall's value. And you are using a trade that never happened to support Kerfoot's value? You are probably someone who argued that getting rid of Marleau would not have cost assets, or that dumping Mrazek would not have cost assets, simply because that player wore a maple leaf on the front of the jersey.

But I am willing to hear about all these teams are willing to give up a 2nd and 4th for a 5 million dollar, defensive defenseman, who is getting paid over 6 million in real dollars, is 33, has a modified no trade, and ended last year looking like his best days are behind him.

the kerfoot trade didn’t happen because dubas wanted to keep him, st louis was willing to pull the trigger. confirmed by toronto sources. either way comparing murray’s value to brodie’s shows me the level of understanding you have about leafs players so no point continuing the conversation

Who cares? I mean no disrespect but Toronto is not going to get bailed out. They have some high profile UFA’s next summer that if teams hold the line against Toronto puts the Leafs at a very awkward position. If Toronto is going to be cap compliant they will need to give up value. If I am GM Trev I would move Nylander. You could probably gets pick compensation and a young player that is cost controlled. He isn’t going to sign at a rate that works long term anyway so why not do it now?

i also think trading nylander is the right move, not because of the cap but because we need at least one more big add on defence and he’s the leafs most valuable and moveable asset. the leafs are tight to the cap every year and always finagle it without cheating on the ltir like vegas and tampa, pridham is a cap miracle worker
