They should not at all. Seider fits their competitive window and an elite RD is more valuable than an elite W.

laugh laugh You know the answer, Hell No. We told you only Matthews would get Seider. And even then you don't trade an elite franchise RHD. When they're already hard to come by.

No its because they overvalue him. How many times I have seen Redwings Fans talk about him as untouchable and In deals that only benefited the wings.

He's no Bobby Orr, But he's still worth a hell of a lot more than William Nylander. Teams don't trade from a position of weakness. And right now RHD is our weakness.

I would agree Also I don't think Nylander is what the Wings need regardless of what's going the other way.

Pass. Timmins is the best player involved in this trade. No reason to be adding Nylander as well!

He's a 22 y/o #1 D-Man at RD.
Why would you even consider trading that?
You don't. Any return feasible likely results in a worser position regardless.

Get off your high horse. Why would they, could you tell me that? Ummmhe sucks so why not.

Seider is 22, cost. Ontrolled for 4 more years and plays a postuon in need in the NHL, that and has played two seasons of NHL and he has played well. Nylander is a pending FA and wants 10 million and let's facevit he is no where near worth that when there a better players in the NHL making less.

Detroit declines. Seider is the 2nd coming of Bobby Orr...but also there's also several painfully more obvious reasons why Detroit wouldn't do this.

I never said the trade was good. I just started that way too many people on this site overvalue young players that MIGHT become something and tend to use reasons that increase value but not as much as you think.

As far as Nylander's Value you can argue that he is worth $10M when you factor in what he's done and if you look at the fact that his contract will kick in with what is expected to be a huge jump in the salary cap over the next few years. If you look at his comparables if his contact kicked in this year he should be a $8.5M-$9M player. If you add 5% increase in value due to the the expected 5% increase in cap next year you are almost at $10M. Also remember that they are negotiating and you always start high

Yes, teams do overvalue young players because of potential. This is not a new revelation. That's probably why we don't see many fresh draftees get traded.

I get what you're saying about young players on this site, but Seider doesn't fit into that conversation. He's got 92 points in his first two seasons. That's already an established solid D-man at worst. And that's coming from an Avs fan lol.

Also, if I'm Toronto I get as much as I can out of Nylander this year but for the love of god, don't overpay the dude next summer. If you absolutely have to, trade his bargaining rights away in June for some draft capital and don't keep repeating the same cap mistakes over and over. Just my two cents.

I would agree Seider is a great young D and the chance of him being trade are slim to none especially based on the team situation.

for Nylander what do you consider an over payment? I think the Leaf's need to lock him in for $9M max or trade him (this summer). I was just saying that asking for $10M+ as a starting point in your negotiation for him is not that far fetched

Based on his numbers and your other cap hits, I wouldn't give him a dime over 9.5 and I would try like hell to keep it under 9. From an outside perspective, he's got two 80 point seasons and we can safely say he is now in the "prime" of his career. With the cap going up next year I think 9.5 is fair for an 80 point player. That being said, his camp is going to argue that he's got more in him if he could get more usage, and that's where I think the rubber is going to meet the road. Also, does Tavares stay after next year and how much will he want? In my mind you can't have both those guys locked up long-term on a team that already pays a king's ransom to Marner and Matthews.
