Description
Flames have a lot of balls up in the air with guys not wanting to extend beyond this season. I still think Lindholm ultimately ends up getting moved too, I just don't know what fair value would be for him.

Columbus gets a goalie if Tarasov isn't ready

Colorado gets a top-4 D man for cheap as a probable rental for a guy that the Flames have under team control for 4 seasons

Boston gets a C who can play top-6 if needed. Better option than Coyle in the top-6

Edmonton gets a better rental D man while dumping Ceci's contract. The cap hit doesn't matter for the Flames in this scenario.

Canucks get a top-4 guy who likes it there, and the Flames get assets for a guy who likely wasn't re signing either. Poolman just helps the cap. Starts on IR anyways

4 years at $5M for this ? Girard plus a top-10 protected first for Hanifin is more than fair

Yup, everyday of the week.

You think Hanifins numbers would look like that stapled to Josh Manson or Erik Johnson as a D partner? Absolutely not.

Girards numbers are a by product of playing on a D core that features Toews, Makar and Byram. He matched Hanifins offensive output with less TOI, less PP time, less games played and stuck with weaker D partners

This you? If that's what you think Saad is worth, even at 50% retention, you lose all credibility with me

I assume you admit defeat here seeing as after only one reply you’ve completely shifted the topic of discussion. Must’ve struck a nerve as you felt the need to sift through my past AGMs to pick a new leg to stand on lol XD

As for that AGM, yes that’s me. Title was something along the lines of “What would Saads asking price be?” As I was asking the opposing fans base what the asking price would be.

A 1st and a 3rd rd pick for 3 years of Saad at 50% retained seemed close. The 3rd was for the three years of retained salary (6.75mil total, comparable was the NYI paying a 2026 2nd for 5mil of Bailey to get dumped), and a 1st for Saad himself.

It was an honest attempt at determining his trade value. Bad example to pick to try to discredit me kiddo lol

Did you just go dig up dirt on someone because your argument wasn't feeling as sturdy? tears of joy

Those numbers are comparisons to teammates as well which is difficult when you have 3 of the best dmen in hockey on your team and you don't play with any of them.

4 years of Girard

I don't follow the Avs closely, but I thought you all were trying to get out from under that contract? I'm not saying that the proposed deal was good or commenting on Girard's skill, but if your D is good enough that a guy on your bottom pair is making 5m, that is a luxury that most teams cannot afford for multiple seasons.

34 year olds who are not signed beyond the current season typically are not going to net a 2nd round pick in the offseason. Maybe at the TDL when teams are desperate. Boston is in a dire situation at C, but I wouldn't call them desperate. They can simply embrace having a down year and explore their FA options.

There's been talk about Girard being on the block for the longest time, and about the Avs wanting to move that contract, yet suddenly he's untouchable in a deal for a much better D man

It's a media concoction that has no basis in reality. The team values Girard very highly and does not want to move him. He's not untouchable, but he certainly isn't some cap dump either. His contract is a good one and will look better and better as the years pass.

And let's be clear -- if it is really the case that Girard is more of a 2nd pairing guy who is only on the 3rd pair because he is behind a bunch of other good defensemen, then the Avs wouldn't trade for Hannafin in the offseason since D isn't an area of need. Maybe at the deadline, depending on how the season shakes out. But they're better off seeing what areas of need pop up in season given that his contract isn't a burden at this moment in time.

There is nothing wrong with Girard or his contract, he’s just the flavour of the month trade chip COL fanbase uses to find ways to move salary to afford Toews new contract.

He may appear to line up on the “third pairing” but look at his utilization and ice time, he plays second pairing minutes, I believe he had 3rd highest average ice time on the team?

I have pointed this out ad nauseum so I know by heart that he's actually 4th behind Makar, Toews, and just barely Byram. He's waaaay ahead of Manson though, which places him firmly in the top 4, regardless of how lineups are posted.

As a bone to the op, all else equal Hanifin is preferable to Girard. But all else ain't equal, and the difference is significant.

People on the internet want to move on from Girard. The Avs front office loves Girard. They won't move him unless they get an offer they feel is fair.

Most fanbases act as if pairings are locked in stone. Avs fans know Bednar changes his defensive pairings all game long. Girard dressing on the third pair means almost nothing.

Lol, no **** the last 3 years is the past. Thats how time works. The problem is you said he's not the same player he once was, and injuries have taken a toll on him. Which makes no sense because clearly his performance hasn't dropped from those injuries as he hasn't fallen off at all. Unless you know about some secret hockey league thats taken place in the last 3 months since the season ended there hasn't been any fall off in terms of performance
