That is not enough for Pesce with half retention. McCabe is a scratch on the Canes, Robertson has no value, and the 1st isn’t enough for Pesce alone.

Best case scenario, the Leafs have to go out and get another McCabe with less assets, worst case scenario, Lilly's development gets destroyed, so does his confidence while the amount of offence on the left side can't be supplemented by the defense on the left side

Add in that McCabe is a beast come playoffs and the Leafs wouldn't have a 1st until 2026, not ideal... I'd rather trade Nylander for Pesce+Necas TBH

I would replace McCabe with Brodie, McCabe is a top-4 D only making 2 million. CAR can flip Brodie for someone or have an older Pesce+assets.

It’s beyond that. You can add Lily or something else to the package and on the surface maybe the values are fine. Problem becomes the extension for Nylander. He’s great and worth a lot but is he going to sign 8x9ish in CAR? If so, great and deal. But why wouldn’t he sign that in TO? I can’t see a situation where he signs a deal that CAR would offer him that TO wouldn’t offer him.

Assuming the Canes actually get Karlsson, McCabe is a scratch. On the left side, he isn’t playing ahead of Slavin, Orlov, or Skjei, and on the right, he isn’t playing ahead of Burns, Karlsson (or Pesce assuming Pesce gets kept), and would have a hard time pushing either Chatfield or TDA (if that move happens) out of the lineup. He is a top 4 dman, but that 2mil can be put to much better use than being the 6th, 7th, or 8th dman on the roster.

Carolina's trying to get Karlsson, they'll most likely pay the 10 that Nylander's asking... the only reason why TO isn't going above 8, is bc they can't afford him and a chip beyond that

McCabe was pretty awful for a lot of the playoffs and was really bad vs Florida. Yeah he hits and that's fun and all but it means nothing when you get scored on a bunch. If he's not our 3rd pair LD come playoffs, we have a big problem.

He's definitely better than Skjei and I totally forgot you signed Orlov. I am not a huge McCabe fan to be honest but he's better than Skjei.

He was awesome, especially when it comes to keeping pucks in the opponent's zone and getting pucks out the Leafs' zone, Brodie def. didn't have his best playoffs but McCabe was able to help him go back to the basics bc of how good he was. Tkachuk went invisible in RD2 bc of McCabe and that's part of the reason why Florida stopped trying to hit and went to straight on dirty plays bc they couldn't keep up with McCabe and Schenn's hits

McCabe hit lots but he was not good. He's all over the place and tries to lay the big hit which puts him out of position. Brodie and McCabe were separated in the 2nd round because they were awful and Brodie played much better with Holl while McCabe was bad no matter who he played with. Mccabe is a 3rd pair defenceman

No they wouldn’t. They’re not making Nylander the highest paid player on their team over Aho who’s gonna get 9.5. That’s also just not the canes MO so it’s extremely unlikely. Canes have a bunch of guys due raises so if they start mismanaging their cap they’ll be in the position the leafs find themselves in. Long and short of it - ain’t happening.

Skjei potted a career high 18 goals last year and was one off his career high in points. He's not getting scratched for McCabe.

Unsustainable shooting percentage. He'll never do it again.
