Description
Helly will be moved before training camp in my opinion. Brossiot was brought in to shoulder some more games and he’s not doing that with helly still here. Brossiot also wants more starts, so I don’t think he would have signed in Winnipeg if helly would be staying.

Scheifele is a tricky situation. Obviously you can’t replace him. High end 1Cs don’t grow on trees. However, with a major culture shift going on, is there an ultimatum on him? If he does stay, he will have to give full buy in for sure. And as a jets fan, I’m not sure the current scheifele can do that. The old scheifele of pre 2019 could. However, schiefele just has not been his pre-2019 self. Maybe it would be best both sides get a fresh start, as much as I like Mark Schiefele the player. However, I’m just not sure mark scheifele, the personality, is the one to lead this team to success. Therefore, I think the jets move him. I’m personally for moving him at the tdl because I don’t think teams will be willing to pay much for him right now. Rather, we could get a horvat like return for him in the spring. The time until then can also be a bit of a “prove it” time for scheifele where he can prove he is a good leader and will be a positive influence on the new core. If not, it’s time for him to move on. If he does prove he can buy in, offer him an extension.

Therefore, time to continue moving some older guys out and bring back some young blood.

To encourage good culture, I also brought in toews. He’s a hometown boy and reportedly wants to play. This would be a good “no strings attached” type deal. If his health permits, Toews can keep playing throughout the season, or however many games he can works.

With the return we got for dubois, the jets can afford to take futures in a deal for one or both of helly and/or scheifele. Therefore, I went for futures for helly and we can sell scheifele at the tdl.

Daws, salminen, milic, and delia can share the net with the moose and Jacksonville. My bet is milic starts in jacksonville, and the rest rotate with the moose.

I think they're stuck with Schmidt, should've offered him to Florida for Duclair before they signed like 4 dmen in free agency.

could you show where you’ve seen that toews wants to play? id take him if that’s the case

honestly schmidt could probably be easily traded at TDL with retention (jets can afford even 50%) to a contender looking for depth instead of paying to dump him. same with stanley, the jets dont have any pressure to dump him and likely can get a return with some other team

i think helle will be kept as a self-rental this season and they’ll take a run at re-signing him. doesnt seem like any team wants to pay what his price would be, in trade or contract.

i mostly agree about scheifele, he might be very motivated in his contract year too. with scheif (and helle), this team will likely make it to at least wildcard again, in which case they won’t be selling him off because they’ll try for a playoff push. without scheif, this team won’t make it to playoffs with that center depth and if they plan on that then they should trade him earlier in the season the better. its a tricky and interesting situation this season for winnipeg. chevy has a decent track record with this stuff so i’ll have my eyes glued to what he does for the next while

Gawd help this organization if they re-sign Hellebuyck, even if he comes back to reality with his contract demands its still gonna be a bad deal for whoever he signs with, I pray that's not with the Jets... 🙏

i’m hoping (coping) it will be something like 8.5x5, which is still at least a lot of moeny for reasonable term for org that made his career, but for sure too much term would be scary

There’s some value to be placed on the ability to draft, develop, sign and retire a franchise goalie who’s one of the best of his generation. Adds some pedigree to the jets franchise.

That being said, the smart move would be to move him asap for as much as possible. Try and swing some sort of futures deal to a contender.

Jets can then use those futures to trade for a goalie to replace helly or keep them and use them.

More value in collecting assets, not saddling oneself with an albatross contract and clearing the way for one of their goalie prospects.

I'm just not a Helle believer, if he couldn't get on a hot streak in his prime with this recent core which was considered fairly good what makes us think he'll get on a good run when he's older and out of his prime with this next core which likely won't be as good or will at least take some time to develop?

I just don't see it happening, imo its best to move on and let him be some other teams headache.

id like to move schmidt asap to get heinola and/or chisholm NHL time.

I don't remember where, but I saw some reports on toews wanting to play a few days ago. Idk if they are reputable tho. If not, oh well. not tied to the idea.

Helly will get enough interest to get moved this offseason in my opinion

Some other team then. Top 3 goalies arent ever available. Either someone pays or we wait. The jets have all the time in the world to get the right price.

The jets are not "handcuffed" here. They have over 8 months to deal with this. They can afford to wait and chevy is known for being more than patient until he gets what he wants. Just see the copp and dubois trades recently. Or even picking up Nino and Namestnikov at the tdl

I like the deal, even without Casey, but if the jets can get him too then awesome.
I want Bucky to stay and i think the plan is for the jets to hold onto him in hopes he does return. Playing with fire IMO as he cannot walk for nothing.

Sounds about right then. We don't HAVE to trade for a G, we'd like too. Of that's the case he's a TDL rental. We can talk after the season. We should have a handful of PO games played by our young guys and be ready to compete for a very deep run the following year. Hellebuyck can then pick where he wants to go and it won't cost us anything g but money. In 2 yrs cap will be what about $5M more. Buf will be set with Levi and UPL, Ott is already committed. Edm will always be looking for a G, as will Tor. 37s hometown will have the young guy about ready to go. And lastly our starter will either be soaring or a decent 1B to SchmidO the torpedo. It's a luxury not a must have.
