As a Ducks fan, I gotta think you're referencing the bazillion John Gibson trades, since nobody tries to trade for anyone else on our roster In fairness to us though, what's the point of moving him if there's not a good return? It's not like we aren't a cap floor team, so his cap hit isn't an issue and likely wouldn't be for the duration of the contract.

To answer the original question though-Everyone overvalues their players/prospects. I mean, why wouldn't they? I'd say the vast majority of fans get their knowledge from click-baity media types which is hilariously dangerous...watch the draft and listen to the hilarious player comparisons that they do-If you don't have the time to actually look into/follow some of these prospects, and Craig Button is telling you that "Prospect McProspectsalot, the 7th round pick out of Bangladesh" is the next "Patrick Kane", then why wouldn't you simply run with that? Sounds a heck of a lot better than "This 7th round pick is definitely a hockey player, and his odds of ever sniffing the NHL are almost as low as your odds of getting in a plane crash.

The biggest problem with this take is that this isn’t a science. There no way of quantify hockey players. Tom Wilson doesn’t make a 100 point but oh boy oh boy there 31 team that would take him and they would pay a steep price. Defensively, guy’s like Radko Gudas or Luke Scheen doesn’t have number or analytics that advantage them but they could change the momentum of the game in a second with intimidation when they hits like train. Evaluation come at the end with your feeling.

Man, we thought Klingberg was going to work out, what we were left with was an appreciation if just how good of a defenseman Esa Lindell (the guy who had to cover his a$$ in Dallas) really is. I'm frankly surprised we were able to move him by the time the TDL came around.

But I will second what Lenny said about Gibson. Outside of that, there really isn't much on the team of value outside the untouchables other than Henrique and Fowler. We thought Comtois was worth giving one last chance to because we know the skill is there, but it recently came out he was a malcontent in the locker room and didn't want to be there anymore. Now everyone's cheap target is Jones, and I think he started showing enough moments of brilliance last to get more Ice time to see what he can do. We've held onto him this long to see if he has something why toss that out when he's finally starting to pass the eye test?

But to answer the original question. It's Rangers fanes.

Might be 32 way tie for worse offenders. But the "worse offenders", it isn't so much folks overvaluing their own players.......it's the non appreciation of other teams needs or the cap implications to the "other team" when trades are made.
