Would mtl do this

Créé par: Howie

Description
Dubois deal that is an actual middle ground that isn't dach but also isn't nothing like many fans believe he's worth
Transactions
WPG
  1. Hoffman, Mike
  2. Kidney, Riley
  3. Mailloux, Logan
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
Is this a deal that mtl would consider? Doesn't trade any 2023 picks in a deep draft, remove a almost unmovable contract in Hoffman, 2 b prospect and a 1st that is completely unknown and not their own pick.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [Droits de RFA]
  2. Gawanke, Leon [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Ik the 2025 first is unideal but if Hellebuyck gets moved he likely gets a first (2023 or 2024) so sure we could have 3 firsts this year but spreading out the picks could pay off if we can squeeze more via prospects. 13th pick for helle could result in 2 top 18 picks in 2023 trade scheifele for a 2024 first and then we have 2 first for 4 years straight.

As of now, Mailoux has been banned from playing in the NHL. Kent Hughes will need to have him re-instated.

Yeah thats fair but as a prospect he's farther from nhl ready and to keep a 2023 pick to replace him

MTL may want to do that. They probably want to get off Hoffman now and probably think WPG is desperate.

WPG doesn't want Hoffman and I can't seen Mailloux being reinstated any time soon and someone WPG should stay away from. The 2025 pick is quite far away, so doesn't help WPG with the rebuild.

Again, the best option I feel is Kidney, Dvorak and the FLA pick MTL has in the first round of the upcoming draft.

If I were speaking on behalf of WPG, I would hope for more from MTL. May need to add some more on both sides to make it more of a win win. Get creative.

OH.. hang on. WPG has the man with no creativity or plan at the helm... Chevytakestoomanydaysoff. Argh.

It doesn't matter if Montreal would do it, the Jets wouldn't entertain it.

First, the Jets aren't waiting 3 drafts for the 1st for that poor of a return. It's simply not realistic to expect Winnipeg to do that.

Hoffman is a cap dump. The Jets may take back salary, but it won't be a worthless cap dump.

Mailloux can't play in the NHL and has poor moral character. Not something True North would associate their brand with.

The only acceptable piece is kidney as a marginal B prospect.

There's no logical, rational or realistic for Winnipeg to accept such a poor deal when TDL rentals routinely go for more.

Would it in Theory work?
I could live with it begrudgingly for a player we could sign for free a year later.
If i thought PLD would give us a discount , thats different
He wont though IMO

But Kidney is good but Kapanen fullfils the same role he's projected to and is bigger while representing and Captaining his Country more often.
Losing Mailloux hurts, All the re-instatement aside he's got Value and will play in the Future as Failure to just gives the KHL an Elite level D to Elevate them.
He's Big , He's skilled on the PP and solid defensively given his experience level he's a Gift the NHL wont award to Russia if nothing else.

1. Montreal isn't giving up 2 1sts + worth of value for PLD and an AHL lifer D man.

2. Mailloux is aging out of the OHL this years so he will at least be AHL bound and the NHL will have to allow for him to be called up if injuries happen, so at some point this next season he should be cleared to play.

3. Hoffman (retained) has positive value and even if you don't view him as having value he is a cheap buyout

4. Agree the most likely trade is Kidney, Dvo and the cats 1st

One thing I think WPG fans don't press on enough is the pressure PLD & Brisson "Should" feel to sign a long term deal this offseason.

The 2024 UFA Class is Elite at center and PLD would generously be 4th on the list of centers to target (much lower if you don't factor in age, cause Stamkos & Kopitar are who they are!). This year he is hands down the best center available, albeit by trade.

Now PLD may be willing to sacrifice millions to go only to MTL, I dunno - I'm not in his head. But I DO believe he can sign an 8 x 8.5 with almost any team this year and next year he will have to wait until they figure out if they are getting Matthews, Aho, and others... That includes MTL BTW because I promise you MTL is taking Aho over PLD every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I think if I was Howie or Windjammer, I would bring this up every time I shoot down a MTL is getting him for free proposal. If he's smart, he WILL sign for 8 years this offseason. I am convinced he gets signed to a long term deal this year one way or another. If Montreal wants him, they HAVE to make a deal. Do they want him though?

that doesn't work, if Dubois is dead set on coming to Montreal. replace Hoffman with Dvorak or Armia, and make it Floridas 1st this season, and I probably accept

Where have you seen a better deal that wasn't ripped apart by the aquiring teams fans? Fact is even tho it isn't mtl or nothing lots of other teams still see a guy that likely doesn't stay long-term

People like to throw in Dvorak as the cap and say he's the "roster replacement" but he's not a 2c or close to one so why take him when we can take back worse cap in Hoffman for a better return

Okay that's fine but the point remains that if you want to move a cap player not named gally it would be possible

Dear Hab fans... Jets don't have to take any money back in any PLD deal. Winnipeg isn't taking on Dvorak or hoffman etc. If you think those players have value go trade them and use the assets in a dubois trade.

They actually wouldn't, this is equivalent to 2 1sts + a 2nd and cap offset. It's way more than the Sharks got for Meier and the Canucks got for Horvat. Take out Mailloux and add some more protection to the Flames pick incase it becomes an unprotected 2026 1st.
