I think I'd have to say yes. Some very good assets there namely Soderblom and the 17OA but you have to give to get.

Not a fan of this from Detroit's standpoint. Don't think we should be in the Marner race whatsoever.

Marner makes way too much. Even though he's very good, I think these finals are showing that depth and quality are worth more than super high paid players. There isn't a single team left with a player making MORE than 10m a year and all of those teams, that player is their highest paid. Furthermore, the assets it would take to get him, are a double hit. Detroit needs to just keep building through the draft and if they can add a superstar that makes less than 10m in a trade that makes sense, sure, but otherwise, I'd MUCH rather have two VERY good players making 5m...

I think that a Marner trade would possibly be one of the largest of the cap era.

Detroit certainly has the assets if Toronto is interested in those age ranges.

I do think the ask would be a huge turnoff for many fans. The return is a validated top 10 at their position skater entering their prime. And he avoids injury.

Wouldn't trade Matthews for seider and one first at least? Meh..

I don't want him moved anyways that's why I made the deal something Detroit couldn't do but Larkin with Matthews is guaranteed playoffs and quality hockey right now I can't watch Detroit.

Can't see Steve moving 17OA this year, draft is too deep. Also I think Steve will keep the 2024 BOS 1st rounder because who knows where BOS will be next season (with their cap issues including 4.5M in dead money, and aging, they could be fighting hard to make the playoffs). Totally can see all 3 2023 2nd rounders in play. Also can't see TOR getting full value for anyone other than Matthews. This isn't CGY/FLA or OTT/CHI trades, none of those teams were backed into a corner cap wise. TOR has cap issues, plus just can't bring back the same team after the failures of the last few years. I also think TOR can get more for Nylander than Marner, especially if they can get a contract extension for Nylander as part of the deal.

TOR needs to bring in 6-8 people with the ~$8m in cap space they have, plus whoever they move. And they HAVE to get better at the same time. Tough prospect with the FA class and being stuck in a corner.

So you can win with a guy making 10 million but not 10.9? Lol. I think Detroit be just fine with marners cap hit because Larkin is at 8.7. Seider will get a high number but that’s on defence so things are more spread out. Torontos problem has always been half the cap on 4 forwards. They bet that those 4 guys could deliver, seems like they can’t together but Marner could absolutely be a force on a different team in the playoffs. You can win with him, just not sure the leafs can.
Detroit seems in good position to resign him too and good chance he would like it there.

As for the trade cost, hard to say but Detroit has the prospects and picks to give Toronto a nice package, they might have to pay a little more for Toronto to deal him in division. I think it’s one of the more likely destinations.

Edvinsson with shoulder surgery is possible but unlikely. But also, not an asset Toronto really needs.

I bekieve they would want a bunch of ready now cheap young players. Veleno is exactly the type of asset that, combined with the cap savings, makes a Marner deal go around.

And with two years left he would get a good haul but not a great one. I had trouble finding teams that would add a star little winger at any price point but especially that price point. Reminds me of Johnny Hockey being an out and out superstar but being totally unloved in the open market.

Yz would absolutely not do Kasper or this years first for Marner. No way. And I don’t even like the “speculate on the GM’s thoughts” game but that one is super obvious.

Rather cut my big toe off than deal that lol. 2 years of Marner ain't worth that, especially considering that we're not contenders.

Edvinsson's surgery was a prevention surgery; he wasnt injured, but was prone to an injury.

Regardless, Marner doesn't make much sense for a team that will not be competiting in his 2 years left.

Sieder and Raymond only have 1 year til RFA, better trade them now before they could hold out and demand a trade.
Seriously, sorry for being dramatic but I get tired of seeing the “no no no we can’t trade that for player X, he only had 2 years left!!” He’s not going to fall off the face of the earth in 2 years, work out a contract extension or trade him to get some assets back if it doesn’t work out.
Pretty sure any team that is comfortable with the cap hit would trade a late top 10 pick for Marner. Debrincat went for number 7 and 39 and a third. He had 2 years of control.

First argument is quite stupid, but expected from someone who wants to pay handsomely for Marner to Detroit.

Second, doubt he'll resign since Yzerman is stingy. So that leaves us with trading him - why would we trade for him knowing that we'll get less than what we paid for him? He certainly isn't going to fetch as much at the TDL than he is now.

He doesn't match our timeline whatsoever. Get real.
