Attn leafs fans
I like paryako and would part with liljegren and a first for him. Funny thing is if the leafs were to get him, once he has a rough stretch of games everyone will say they gotta attach 2 firsts to him to dump that terrible contract lol
I don’t think the total contract is a negative asset but the last half of it most likely will be. He also has a full no move so if st.Louis wants off the contract and he wants to go to the leafs then they need to work together.

But no, Minten, a 1st and another prospect is not going to start a conversation, because that other prospect ain't that good and ain't at the position the Blues need more than all other positions combined. Seriously, not trying to be mean, but if the Leafs cannot include Knies - and that is a totally fair stance I have no quibble with - then they do not have the trade capital to start talks. Army has all the cards. It is what it is.</div></div>
Maybe it’s just the way I read it man, but that’s fine, no big deal.
A first, Minton and liljegren is as high as I could see them going. I get liljegren has issues but he’s still a young d man with potential. I’m not sure how to value him, is it similar to sandin last year? He was in the same boat, getting dropped down the lineup/scratched in the playoffs and still got a first.
And that’s fine if it’s not what they are looking for. I think it’s a better offer than a lot of what you see on here tho is all

This is armchair gm, it’s not a direct line to the GM offices. It’s just an idea. I looked at half of dozen Buch and paryako trades this morning, all had just one first to the blues, cap filler and maybe Minton. I thought that was way too low and saw you commenting saying as much.
I was trying to build out a paryako and Buch for Minton, liljgren, Robertson, 2 firsts deal. But I mean what’s the chances of something like that happening 2 days before the deadline with all the money the leafs would have to move out to make it work. Not to mention the value could be too low as well.
The 26 first, like zero thought put into who got what first. Thought maybe blues would value one in the future more? Maybe the leafs have a bad regular season by then? Or they rather have that first in their back pocket for longer to trade themselves.
I was trying to hang onto Minton but I think Minton, a first and another prospect is something both sides could talk about.
Leafs prob then be better off trying to get edmundson or whoever they can get for like two thirds instead of blowing a first on a mid tier addition like savard. Who isn’t a UFA but still isn’t the kind of addition that makes big enough of a difference for a first.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Wow, okay. Lots to cover.
- Yeah, plenty of teams will offer very good stuff. It's called desperation x appropriate value for a legit top liner with a little term on a cheap AAV getting cut in half by retention that ain't free. And except maybe arguably Edmonton, no team in the league is more desperate. So so so desperate.
- Perhaps most important of all, please remember that Buch is not "for sale". He's not on the block. He;s not being shopped around. He's a player they don't want to trade who teams will come for anyway because he's awesome, and there's only one other awesome forward available. For this reason and oh my, so many others, a small middle 6 winger who cannot stay in one piece and an almost 25 yo Dman who keeps getting dropped to the 3rd pairing and benched in the playoffs because he cannot stop making terrible mistakes which are routinely covered at length in the local media does NOT qualify as a tempting offer for Buch.
Not gonna lie, I'm genuinely stunned that anyone would ever need this explanation on the "value" of that offer. It's not even remotely competitive.
- Finally, ummm, I do not even know what to say about this, erm, logic? Not sure what to call it. By pushing the 1st offered to the Blues to 26 (or THREE drafts away) you are making it seem like UFA Savard would be more valuable to the Leafs than Buch. Which is... definitely a take.</div></div>

And I have found on this site - fans (especially bad or mid trans) really over value their players. And when Leafs are involved, it’s ratcheted up to another level. I understand concept that Blues are under no pressure to move Buchnevic, but Knies + 1st is preposterous ask. I’d think about it but wouldn’t move Knies straight up for Buchnevic. Not an area of need for us, Knies is cost controlled and nowhere near his ceiling</div></div>
Ya I can agree there thinking more about it, more so got caught up in the cheap cap hit and extra year, trying to find a deal again like McCabe. But it’s not a good deal if it’s not for a good player.

It’s not about who’s the better player. Parayko makes almost 5 million more. If they could somehow get Parayko and Buch, Brodie goes out, assume liljegren is gone too. You got Rielly, Parayko, McCabe, boosh and Benoit. Who’s the 6th?
Savard and Buch at the cap hit next year would give them more money to spend this summer too. It’s just a thought of a different approach. Everyone trading for paryako right now.

Knies is a cost controlled asset for like 5 more years. Ya obviously Buch better now but not sure why the leafs would trade their best young player already in their lineup. Is there another team that would offer a similar player to knies with a first?
I think getting lijegren and Robertson along with a first is nice value. Maybe a little low but depends what other offers out there
First for a d like savard with retention pretty standard. I was just pointing out it’s a lot cleaner to make the move for him than Parayko

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roperttos</b></div><div>Nylanders value would only tank on the Flyers. In Toronto he mostly plays with Matthews as his linemate and in Philly he would get way worse linemates which would lead to him having a way worse season than in Toronto. Philly is better off trading Konecny for just picks and prospects rather than kicking the can down the road and gambling on Nylanders value at the deadline.</div></div>
Oh no I meant they would flip nylander before the season. More value in a team getting him for a full year too. Basically a three team deal.

Way I would see that is they now have nylander who they can turn into a 3.5 million rental and trade to the highest bidder. Same with Brodie.
Pretty good deal for them to move off sanhiems money, not sure if it’s in Toronto’s best interest although I like adding Laughton and konecny

Leafs prob keep lafferty but he doesn’t matter in this deal anyways. Might not get that much retention, but I hope they could. Good value in my opinion for the sharks, especially if you think they could half retain Brodie and get a nice asset from someone with him making 2.5

Why would the leafs have to trade nylander and a first for karlsson? We have all seen the deals this past week, extremely hard to move money unless it’s a young top player (PLD). Karlsson just won the Norris yes but still
Talking about a huge contract for a 33 year old for 4 more years.
Smith, johansen, hayes, hall all got little to no return. 2 with 50% retention. Karlsson is worth more yes but I would say a first and a nice prospect or two with karlsson retained so he makes around 8 is realistic for what the sharks can get. And as a team rebuilding for a few years yet they should be happy to take that
Karlsson has an injury this year and he probably can’t be moved again.

I don’t really understand why Hayes only got a 6th and was half retained but deals are weird right now with cap space tight. Hall dumped for essentially nothing as well.
Now I know karlsson is much bigger asset than these guys but San Jose gets real assets. There’s not many teams that can pull off a karlsson deal that he will approve so the return might be a bit underwhelming.

I would assume nylander extension in this deal. Pesce is better than Brodie but I guess assuming they deal him because he can’t be signed then Brodie is a good replacement for the year.
Nylander is older but has a longer track record of producing points, i think his value with an extension is higher than Necas.

The shake up that can make sense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Calgary is in a terrible position. One of the worst situations in the league. They have 4 major long term contracts for guys in their 30's (Markstrom only has 3 years left at least) and Coleman isn't a great contract either. They just missed the playoffs and have 2 guys wanting out already. In a couple years when Huberdeau, Kadri and Weegar really start taking steps back they will have 23.75 million tied up in long term anchors. They almost can't rebuild because those contracts are almost impossible to move. So hoping you can retool on the fly and have a good run or two is likely what they will do. It won't work but it's what they will do.</div></div>
That’s kind of why I thought getting nylander who could flirt with scoring 50 for a few years with Huberdeau wouldn’t be a bad idea for them. Sucks for them all their UFAs want out but not sure a full rebuild is doable. Gotta maximize the guys they have. Defence is still strong there, markstrom should have a better year, gotta score move, nylander helps.

Also you said it yourself, Calgary's center depth will take a huge fall if Lindholm leaves, not to mention Backlund will almost certainly go too in that scenario. Flames would be significantly better off selling and getting top 10 picks for 2-3 offseasons. LA didn't have Weegar comparable but they did rebuild quite well with a 30 year old Doughty making 11M and 32 year old Kopitar 10M. They also had way less valuable assets to sell off when they rebuilt</div></div>
That’s fair, I thought Calgary would be pushing to get back in the playoffs next year. Ya if they wanna try to a quick rebuild, they should retain money on those rentals and get as much picks as possible

If you have to trade Lindholm and Hanafin and Toffoli it will be either at the deadline for futures or for younger players with upside.</div></div>
Maybe I don’t have the right read in what Calgary would want to do but what I would consider their core is a bit older so are they going for a rebuild with those guys on the cap sheet for many years? Feels more like a retool, of course this has to assume nylander would sign there, if he would I think that’s a great get for Calgary
