When all is said and done…who knows where LaF will stand among other 1OAs…but one thing for certain is that he is an NHL player right now…and belongs in the top 6 of most teams. His development with regards to his goals and assists has been slower than ideal- but he still is a useful player with a lot of development still in front. As long as his salary matches where he is at, then all is good. He’s not a bust, and any team that wants him will have to overpay. 2 1sts may seem expensive (each of those 1sts would really be NYR moving up to 1st round from 2nd and 3rd), but GMs have shown over the past few years that they don’t hold late 1st round picks with the same tenacity with which they refuse to deal early to mid 1st round picks.

Just what NYR needs…more 1st round picks to turn into guys like McIlrath, Jessimer, Andersson, Lundmark, Kravtsov, Brendl, etc…

Doubt if LAF and Holmberg sign those contracts. Leafs should''t be given away picks especially for a LWer, which is the easiest position to fill. Murray and his 4.7m contract can't be wished away.

Robertson already has health issues, Plus the 1st are late. No way does Chris Drury accept that offer for Alexis Lafreniere.

Because there are a bevy of better options on the open market that will be cheaper than Murray. Even Desmith is better and he's already signed at 1.8mil. A third round pick isn't enough to convince a team that's trying to compete, knowingly get worse.

Just here to compare to the Red Wings one you made where you said you’d pay the 9 + 18 picks for Laf (on behalf of Detroit how kind). In exchange Detroit receives a 3rd and 2 laughable 6ths.

When trading for your own team however Toronto gives one pick in 2023 (not even their own), a 2024 1st that is going to be late (and you put top 10 protected), and a broken prospect while receiving back a 3rd this year and a second next year….
