This is a fair trade. Caulfield was a flash in the pan and he fell hard but is now improving at a more expected rate; temper expectations to a floor of a 30 to 35 goal scorer with 25 to 35 assist. Lafrieneirre was a high talent pick who didn't lose his talent, it is still there; he catered and has been getting better.

Both players have issues. Laf has the higher ceiling Caulfield the higher floor.

I think a 1 for 1 here isn't too far out of line and if any team adds it is Montreal with conditions on picks.

I'm sorry, what ? Caufield had 10 more goals and is only 3 points shy of Lafreniere, who played 35 more games this season. Habs aren't even considering a Caufield for Lafreniere swap.
