Description
I'm 100% buying into the rumors that DeBrincat doesn't want to sign with the Senators. Buffalo falls to the second youngest team in the league with this move. Ottawa is in desperate need of picks and a goaltender and Buffalo has both.

Carolina is a very good defensive team that take advantage of Goaloffson's scoring ability and manage his defensive disability.

The Islanders get their backup to Sorokin.

Bryson to Arizona and, given what they have on defense, INSTANTLY becomes a top pairing defender.

Buffalo officially moves away from Ben Bishop and locks up Korpisalo for a few years to backup Levi. Zemgod returns to bolster the 4th line and finally gets to play in a playoff game with the Sabres next season. Jost on the 4th line, too. Gavrikov bolsters the defense a bit with Gummy Bear as his partner. Tank Commander Stillman serves as the 8th man back.

Kulich is the first guy up when an injury happens.

I kinda took the Eichel trade approach, but scaled back a bit on the prospect-aspect of it. They get their picks (which they desperately need) and a NHL ready goaltender who is young enough to be around for a while. Maybe Buffalo adds a prospect like Brett Murray, but anything beyond that might be a bit too much.

The reason they don't have picks is because the "Rebuild is over" they used those picks to add pieces, and they still have a great prospect pool.

As to goaltending, they need a good starter, not UPL.

Which good starter are you adding with no draft picks and a prospect pool you'd like to hang on to?

Riddle me this, DeBrincat ($6,400,000 AVV, 82 gm, 27 go, 19min/gm, 1go/60 min, and -31) is worth more than a 12th and 45th OA while Olofsson ($4,475,000 AVV, 75 gm, 28 go, 14min/gm, 1.6go/60 and -23) can only return the 127th OA.
Not disputing Alex's value, just trying to get Sabre fans to understand there will be teams offering a lot more for Victor than a late fourth round pick.
TBH put him on the fouth line with two checking forwards (two goals in the past two games playing with Okposo and Girgensons) and he will still put up over 20 goals/year.

I wouldn't say a "great" prospect pool anymore (mainly because they stupidly took Boucher 10th OA in 2021) but probably a bit underrated right now.

Greig, Ostapchuk, Kleven, Sogaard, Jarventie, JBD, Thomson, Pettersson, Crookshank, Donovan, Guenette and Merilainen are the quality prospects

I don't even consider Boucher and Sokolov as quality prospects

Depth after that is not great at all, because the 2021 and 2022 drafts look like nothing special

Bryson probably doesn’t even make the roster, let alone instantly become a top pair defender, his metrics are terrible. I’d take a flyer on him for a 5th but let’s not go crazy

I wouldn't do that to Okposo and Girgensons permanently. It's not fair to them to have to pull that defensive zone weight to MAYBE get Olofsson a scoring chance at the other end.

I probably should have "/s"'d that part of the write-up. Not at all serious, but I think he'd be competitive for Arizona. Bottom pairing with upside.

What they desperately need is to change their GM and coaching staff.. and that has been the case for a few years

They had one of the best drafts in NHL history in 2020 and were in an incredible position after that. But ever since, Dorion has mostly been screwing it up (I know DeBrincat and Chychrun were great splash moves, and Giroux was a great signing (but lucky)

Look at what was on the roster in 2020-21, when they wanted to start to be more competitive :

Stepan 6.5 AAV
Murray 6.25 AAV
Dadonov 5.0 AAV
White 4.75 AAV
Anisimov 4.55 AAV
Zaitsev 4.5 AAV
Gudbranson 4.0 AAV
Tierney 3.5 AAV
Dzingel 3.375 AAV

That's probably the worst 42 M$ spent in NHL history lol

I would have understood if the plan was to TANK, but they drafted Tyler... Freaking... Boucher... with the 10th OA pick, one of the biggest REACH in the 1st round in a long time

A guy like Brett Murray is no longer a prospect, he's an AHL body.

Need to send something better then UPL for Debrincat.

Normally I do not reply when someone comments on my post, but did you take the time to actually read what I said.
"Not disputing Alex's value, just trying to get Sabre fans to understand there will be teams offering a lot more for Victor than a late fourth round pick."
Of course DeBrincat is worth more than Olofsson but not by that degree.
If you took the time to digest my POV you should have given it like instead trying to repeat what I just said.

EDIT: BTW the 12th and 45th in a very deep draft could be worth more than the 7th and 39th in last years draft.
Again, I am not questioning the value of DeBrincat, just how low Sabre fans value Olofsson.

The league is riddled with "bottom pairing with upside" dmen and the smallish puck mover dman is becoming the most dime a dozen player in the league if it isn't already, Bryson is likely on waivers and on his way back to Rochester after camp.

Jonathan Quick, Semyon Varlomov, Fredrick Anderson, James Reimer, Tristan Jarry, Jonas Korpisalo, Aiden Hill, Alex Nedeljkovic, or maybe a lesser guy like Stalock, Brossoit, Stolarz, Rantaa, etc.

You know, free agent signings? There's a lot of goalies in this years UFA class.

Agree. Bryson experiment in nhl near done
As for Cat he’s worth much more than this but certainly not worth the cost to Buffalo with Savoie,Kulich and others that need spaces to play. Obviously their development is critical and hopefully successful. It’s unfortunate for Ottawa he hasn’t accepted Ottawa as a great place to continue to play. I’m quite surprised by that

So the reason Carolina doesn't touch Olofsson is because he is tragic defensively. To play in Raleigh, you need to be good in your own end above all else. Look at Kotkaniemi, Puljujarvi, Kase, Fast, Niederreiter, Trocheck... these guys they brought in that above all else are good in their own zone. Olofsson doesn't fit that, he's a pure powerplay spe****t and he would play 2nd fiddle to Svechnikov

Oh, I'm aware of who is a free agent. I'm just having a hard time finding a guy that Ottawa, a team that is trending towards the playoffs next season, would want to invest in to backstop their team. I'd love to see the fanbase if Ottawa shows up to opening night next year with Adin Hill as their starter.
