You have Buffalo dumping A TON of assets into a backup goaltender. An absurd amount of capital. Like, holy ****.

To play in Raleigh, you need to be good in your own end above all else. Look at Kotkaniemi, Puljujarvi, Kase, Fast, Niederreiter, Trocheck... these guys they brought in that above all else are good in their own zone. Olofsson doesn't fit that, he's a pure powerplay spe****t and he would play 2nd fiddle to Svechnikov</div></div>
Fine. If we retain 50%, will you give him a place to play for a year?

You know, free agent signings? There's a lot of goalies in this years UFA class.</div></div>
Oh, I'm aware of who is a free agent. I'm just having a hard time finding a guy that Ottawa, a team that is trending towards the playoffs next season, would want to invest in to backstop their team. I'd love to see the fanbase if Ottawa shows up to opening night next year with Adin Hill as their starter.

I probably should have "/s"'d that part of the write-up. Not at all serious, but I think he'd be competitive for Arizona. Bottom pairing with upside.

TBH put him on the fouth line with two checking forwards (two goals in the past two games playing with Okposo and Girgensons) and he will still put up over 20 goals/year.</div></div>
I wouldn't do that to Okposo and Girgensons permanently. It's not fair to them to have to pull that defensive zone weight to MAYBE get Olofsson a scoring chance at the other end.

Which good starter are you adding with no draft picks and a prospect pool you'd like to hang on to?

I kinda took the Eichel trade approach, but scaled back a bit on the prospect-aspect of it. They get their picks (which they desperately need) and a NHL ready goaltender who is young enough to be around for a while. Maybe Buffalo adds a prospect like Brett Murray, but anything beyond that might be a bit too much.

Honestly, he's in there because I'd like to see Asplund as a regular in the lineup. Olofsson is a good situational player, but I would say Asplund is more complete player and is more beneficial to the Sabres in the lineup right now than Olofsson is. They're winning games (some handedly) and he's not contributing to those wins with points, so I'd rather have a more defensive-minded Asplund in there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenW</b></div><div>Tons of UFA D Klingberg comes to mind
You could try and swing a trade involving one of Bryson/Jokiharju/Fitz and a pick/picks for someone like Bear / Gudas / Murphy(though hes likely not for sale) or Severson
Adam Larsson is an interesting name that also pops into my head here</div></div>
Dahlin and Joker have worked well together this season and I imagine they stay together next year, too. Gudas is an interesting idea, though. Didn't think of him. Reliable, physical backstop.
I imagine a traffic cone could be a more reliable defender than Damon Severson, though.
I guess it all depends on how they want to develop Power. If they're going to use him on the power play in a more offensive role, pairing him with Klingberg doesn't seem like a great idea. Someone will need to play defense in that scenario.

Let's face it: Buffalo has too many good prospects that are ready to be competitive at the NHL level now. Not a bad problem to have, but some tough decisions need to be made, unfortunately. There's no doubt he's the first call for an injury, but who are you taking out of this lineup for JJ?

There's absolutely no reason to rush Power into the NHL. Samuelson might have a chance to fill in for an injury, but without McNabb, Zadorov, and/or Koskinen, Buffalo has a hard time reaching the cap floor.

I don't see Palat (5.3 million), Maroon (900k), Ruuta (1.3 million), and Elliot (900k) resigning (8.4 million total). They'd need to fill a 4C, 4LW, a bottom pairing defender and a backup goalie. If you plug in system guys into their lineup as of right now, they're about 1 million over the cap.
Ideal, no, but could it be done? Sure.
