Notable facts for a Debrincat trade:
1) His shooting was at his low and was very unlucky when it came to that. He kept having open nets and be like either robbed by the goalie or hits the post or misses the net to the point where everyone was like at some point it needs to even out and go the other way. The players he played with the most are Brassard/Pinto/Greig as his centre and Batherson as his winger. Greig and Pinto as good as they played werent close to the level of Cat and couldnt keep up. Brassard is washed and was always more suited for the bottom 6. As for Batherson, he wasnt bad defensively the year before but he did say that his high ankle sprain did bother him and he wasnt 100% all year and that he did struggle to play without Norris on his line as well because Norris was great at covering for him defensively. So Batherson and Cat both needed to play with 2 way players to cover for them , instead both played for each other and none was able to retrieve the puck.
2) As for the return yeah the Sens gave up the 7th overall and yeah they wont get that return. they wont get a top 10 pick in 2023 and they wont get a prospect like Korchinski, Gauthier, Mintyukov, Savoie, Jiricek, Kasper. I also think Chicago was desperate at the time to start their rebuild and they didnt have their first so they settle for the best offer that included the highest first they could get. And since NJ and Philly took their 2nd and 5th overall of the table , Ottawa was the winning bid at 7th overall. Teams rarely ever trade top 10 picks so that was huge.
3) The Sens arent gonna take any full futures deals example Ryan Suzuki, 30th overall and 2nd round pick. And they wont take an all in move for 1 year for 2 older rentals like a Tanev + Toffoli + 2nd.
So returns like this that include a guy they can plug into the lineup immediately, a 1st round pick and cap space makes a ton of sense.
example:
Berggren or Mazur or Soderblom + 2023 1st (Isles pick 17th overall) - assuming Larkin, Raymond, Seider, Wallinder, Edvinsson, Kasper, Cossa are untouchable.
Evangelista or Tomasino + 2023 1st (Edmonton 1st - 24th overall)
Dallas doesnt have anything to get a deal done and work the cap space.
Florida would make sense with a deal around Luostarinen + Samoskevich or a deal around Knight or a deal around Reinhart who has 1 year left.
Vegas - if they win the cup , i wonder if they make a deal around Marchessault/Karlsson , pick 32 and something else.
Colorado - Newhook and their 1st (27th overall)
Seattle - Tolvanen/Sprong + 20th overall + potentially a 2nd.
Pittsburgh would be a 3 way trade with 14th pick and another small piece to a 3rd team that wants futures and sens getting some player or two
