There is no incentive for Winnipeg to trade PLD for less than his rental value.

The perfect comparable trade is the Horvat deal, so you just need to add a bit to that for PLD being younger, better and having a full year of team control left.

However, it will be pointless to trade for him if you're trying to get him to sign a lowball extension. Zero chance he signs the extension you have.

I would argue that the perfect comparable for a potential Dubois deal is the fiala trade both being 24yo at the time of the deal and both having similar stats. You could even argue that Fiala had better stats than Dubois on a worst team, but Dubois is a center. The fiala trade was basically what you're getting here.

Dubois is not better than Horvat - at the time Horvat was traded. That comparable is not in the slightest bit close.

Other than the Fiala trade not being comparable at all. Minnesota had to trade Fiala as they couldn't possibly keep him due to cap issues. Winnipeg doesn't have that problem. Plus as you said, PLD is a center there is more valuable.

Horvat was scoring at insane rates, and was a genuine 1C. Dubois, however, is not.

A 1st and a mid-tier prospect is right on the money for Dubois worth.

Objectively over their careers PLD averages 57 points per 82 games while Horvat averages 55 points over their careers. PLD does this with with about one minute less average ice time and being 4 years younger.

If Horvat is a genuine 1C, then by this same qualifications Dubois is a genuine 1C. You not wanting to evaluate players on a level playing field doesn't change that.

The Horvat trade is the perfect comparable.

Dubois gets sheltered 5v5 and averages 60% offensive zone starts. Add that with a high Quality of teammates and a very low Quality of competition. Dubois is not some "never seen before" superstar. He's your run of the mill, 60pt average, second line center who has below subpar defensive metrics.
Parroting box scores and points doesn't help your argument if you're not using context. Dubois has been catered, and handed his sheltered minutes on a silver platter.

There will be no wild, insane return that you seem to think he will get. There's also no competition. He's not going anywhere besides Montreal. No, he will not get traded to another contender, either. He does not want to play anywhere else. He quite literally showed up to the entry draft because he thought he was getting traded to Montreal. And no contender within their right mind will pay you the kings lot for him because they are scared he won't sign there long term, even if he's moved as a rental.

Horvat was moved with the idea that he'd sign an extension. He was not going to be a rental. The islanders were not moving a 1st and Raty for a rental. Especially NOT Lou Lamoriello. Who has no prior history of making such moves.

Hawks aren't taking Armia for less than a 2nd, and with over $8m in actual salary due to him, it might be a 2nd plus.

Jets brass may very well like this deal as there is no cap coming back. If Jets go rebuild, they would probably like to keep the roster near the floor.
