What I find crazy which I just learned tonight

For all the crap he has taken over his point production, he had a similar number of primary assists to Cooley (17 vs. 21), but had no luck getting secondary assist luck, only getting 4 to Cooley’s 22.

Now by no means do I believe he has Cooley’s play making abilities but the knocks on him have been his skating (which he has proven to be wrong with his excellent transition skills) and play making (which apparently with a little more puck luck could improve).

I’m excited to see what he can do, especially if he gets to ride shotgun with Matthews and Marner for his career.

But baby steps first

I have watched nearly zero of him play. I have hope for long term upside. Skating questions in a guy dominating lower leagues with physicality is always a concern. We shall see. If we get the next power forward we've beyond lucked out

If we get the next Chris Kreider or even Josh Anderson we should be happy

IF he can become a version of Alex Tuch, that would be ideal.

Coming from a Gopher fanatic, y'all are gonna LOVE this kid. He's going to be a stud for years to come. Don't let his size fool you. He's got stick skills for days. His skating is legit as well. Dude's a BEAST.

The more confidence he gains the more of a threat he can become

His puck guarding already scary

Absolutely. Frankly if he can just be a slightly tougher Toronto era hyman or bunting it's awesome (Edmonton Hyman would be a dream)

I am sorry for ever trying to temper expectations for Matthew Knies. 1G 4A through 9GP and probably could have a couple more assists with some excellent small area feeds. Still some turnovers on the breakouts he needs to overcome but getting pressured in the playoffs will do that to anyone. Looks like a top 6 support player already.

Knies was on the ice for all three overtime goals:

• Rielly’s Game 3 winner
• Kerfoot’s Game 4 winner
• Tavares’ Game 6 series winner
