Lol not letting you dump that trash contact to Washington while getting positive value. Capitals pass. Kuzy will easily fetch a 1st and MIller is 30 starting a 8x8 deal. Hard pass

At the age of 31, Kuznetsov has two seasons left on his contract and averages 0.8 points per game over his career. At the same age, Miller will be starting on a SEVEN-season contract, and despite his stellar last two seasons, scores at the slightly lower rate of 0.75 points per game over his career. The danger of Miller's contract turning into a bad one may not be high, but it's there, which would seem to me to cancel out any modest difference between them in projected performance in the next two seasons. All of which suggests to me that Washington shouldn't be adding in this deal, especially when the "add" is such a good prospect.

The Blues would sooner take the Garland deal, and they don't have room for him either.

Caps are rebuilding just like Van. Why would they want Miller? His contract will be terrible in 4 years when the Caps (or Van) are aiming to contend again.

Kuzy might fetch a 1st but Miller is worth more than a 1st ++

PPG over their career is not the best way to go about things. Miller completely DOMINATES over the last 3 years. Is by far the better player offensively, and somehow defensively. Also, you'd think GM's would hate those long term contracts like Miller, but them signing those contracts year after year tells me that GMs are fine with contracts ending up terribly, as long as it provides value for the first few years. Horvat, Huberdeau, and Gaudreau are examples of contracts that will end up as anchors in the final years, yet GMs still signed them to those contracts

Horvat, Huberdeau, and Gaudreau Aren’t being moved / shopped after signing terrible deals. Lol. Makes you wonder why Miller is available being how amazing he is

Canucks are not shopping Miller either. He hasn't requested a trade like Kuznetsov

Canucks don't accept that deal. Only way they move Miller is if it brings back a high upside 2C that is under 25yrs old.

Over the past 4 seasons Kuzy has played at a 68pt pace per 82 games. In that same timeframe (which is since Miller became a Canuck) he has played at an 87pt pace per 82 games.

We are not rebuilding...if anything we are retooling. We are going to try to contend every year that Ovi has left, our rebuild is likely not going to start until Ovi is gone.

This is one of those deals for Garland where if the Canes have the space in the middle of August, maybe. But in it's current format, the Canes have FAR bigger priorities that Garland doesn't address

Why do people keep insisting they're retooling. Everyone is trying to half-a their rebuild. Ovy has like 2 good years left. Do you really think they'll be competitive next year or the year after? If so, why? No great prospects. All of their good players are over 30. Unless the Caps hit the draft lottery, they will need a firm rebuild.
At least when Vancouver fans say it's a retool, they can fall back on their best players are under 25. Washington can make no such claim.

Maybe because Brian MacLellan promised Ovi we were not going to rebuild as long as he is a Capital...We can easily contend next year, as we will likely have Wilson, Backstrom, and Carlson for the whole year (fingers crossed) and not have them be missing with injuries for a long period of time. There is also two things called free agency and trading where, get this, you can improve your team by acquiring players and make it so you can actually contend...

But, Do I think we will be successful with Ovis last few years? No, but that is not gonna stop the caps from trying to contend.

Shouldn't be a problem for Washington given Kuznetsov didn't actually request a trade

He promised? Well that and a $5 will get you some ham sandwiches at Arbys.

The Caps can contend next year if:
1.) They add some pieces in FA
2.) Their over 30 stars (who have nearly all missed time in the last few years) all stay healthy
3.) They trade from their shallow pool of prospects and get someone of value who also stays healthy and productive
That's a lot to go right. I wouldn't bet on it and it certainly won't be 'easy".

The best teams in hockey have either great systems or great young players. The Caps have neither. IMO, they are on the same path as the Penguins. They need to recognize that their window is shut and rebuild. But neither team will.

But hell, they got Cups in the last few years which is more than you can say about all of Canada.
