Description
I keep hearing Mayfield's name pop up and from what I've seen and know about him I like him as an option for the Leafs. However I don't know enough about him to realistically put a value on him. What do NYI fans think is realistic to move him? Is this out to lunch? Overpay?

Islanders won't be selling. Lou is invested in this season.

I've been saying if they move him, they should look at the Josh Manson package as the basement of what they should get (a 2nd rounder and a strong prospect). This would arguably be overkill - the pick value is a little stronger than a current 2nd, and Niemela alone would be a fine comp for Drew Helleson.

edited to add: i think we're too close to the deadline for them to go full sell mode, though - especially considering they've won 2 in a row without Mat Barzal in the lineup. Barring something catastrophic happening in the next 8 days, I would think they add some mid-tier pieces instead of selling their pending UFAs

I think the package is a bit too rich for Mayfield.

Seems like a 2nd or 3rd would be fair value...however to get Uncle Lou to trade him in the middle of a playoff race...I imagine it would take a premium...so agree with the above post that a 2nd and a prospect would need to be on the table to get Isles to think about it.

If they add mid tier pieces and still miss the playoffs (likely) that’s a really embarassing look for a franchise that just got out of being looked at as a poverty franchise for a long time

Yeah, that's more what I *think* they would do, not what I want them to do. I still say the best move is to try and play both sides - see what you can get peddling Varlamov & Mayfield, replace them with either a body you get back in the trade or someone from the pipeline (Skarek for Varly and Hutton for Mayfield?) and maybe flip out another, lesser asset for a middle 6 upgrade (JVR? Athanasiou? Jeez, I dunno.)

The biggest stumbling block they're going to have to adding is the logjam in the East - I have to assume that all of the 7 teams fighting for that last playoff spot (save for maybe the Capitals) are going to hang on to their assets, meaning you've suddenly turned this into a seller's market, and prices are going to go up for the Andreas Athanasious of the world.

Isles are going to be without their 1st,2nd and 3rd rd draft pick in the deepest draft in years while mayfiekd and varlamov walk for nothing. Dark times ahead IMO. This team reminds me of San Jose last year signing Hertl. Isles are a similar team

I would consider Kerfoot for one 3rd, not two.

Fascinating. What more do you actually expect to get for someone playing on the 3rd line of the worst team in hockey?

Ya I'm really moreso just trying to feel this one out as I admittedly don't know tons about Mayfield compared to some of the other D men on the block. We're unfortunately sorely lacking 2nds haha so maybe if the 1st goes their way it's more than just Mayfield coming back.

A 2023 3rd at a minimum. Maybe a 2023 2nd. And I'm not a fan of Abruzzese. He's a career AHL'er in my opinion

OK sure a 2023 3rd instead of a 2024 then. I can get that. I think Abruzzese will be an NHLer on the 4th line, I could be wrong though. So if it's a 2023 3rd and a 5th in 2024 like I've got then I'm meeting your expectations of a trade lol
