-I don't see Anaheim sending an asset back here - where's the value for them? Craig Smith is a pending UFA with a $3.1M AAV, you could argue that a late 5th might not even be enough value to get them to eat his contract, much less get back an LD who's a point per game guy in the NCAA right now. Jack McBain got back a 2nd round pick for Minnesota last year even after he announced he wouldn't sign; I don't see Thrun's rights being any less valuable than his.
-Edmonton doesn't have the cap space to make this happen. I'd also argue that this deal would only work in the summer, when Reilly will only have 1x$3M left on his deal - if another team is clearing $1.875M off your cap at the trade deadline, I'm going to assume they're going to want something out of it. It's a different story in July when a team at Arizona looks at Reilly as an NHL-capable player they can plug in to next year's lineup.
-If the rumored price for Schenn is correct, this doesn't do it - lots of folks have been throwing around 2nd round value attached to him. Koppanen is not a prospect at this point, he's an AHL/NHL tweener, and that doesn't add enough value to the 3rd to equal 2nd round value. This offer gets beat by another team that would want Schenn, and pretty easily.
-I think St. Louis is going to want something more for kicking the 2nd rounder three drafts away, and another tweener like Steen isn't it. Add a mid-round pick or a mid-tier prospect and this would bring it home (the Blues might even offer some retention at that point, too, meaning you can probably afford to keep Reilly on the books til the summer and not pay to dump him mid-season.)
