"I HATE THE SALARY CAP". Blame the poor NHL owners (who are the majority) who suck money from the rich owners. Blame the NHLPA who wants members about 750 in the NHL and the AHL 750 .

A 20 team league with 120m cap with 500 top players in the new NHL. We can only dream.

Every Rags ACGM has Laffy on a 2-3 mill short term deal. I could easily see another team offer sheeting higher than that.

If a team came in at 4 mill for 2-3 years would they match or take the 2nd?

I would think they match and figure it out after the fact. I'd think you'd have to get to the $6.3M+ tier (1st/2nd/3rd) before they started sweating and considering just taking the picks.

If I'm tom fitzgerald (assuming I don't get timo meier), I'm offer sheeting Laf for either 4.2 (just below 1st-3rd tier) for 3-4 years. We've got the cap to do it, and it's a win win. I'd be happy putting Laf on hughes wing at 4.2 mill (the devils can pay that and still retain all of Bratt, tatar, Graves, Severson, Yegor, Zetterlund), and pay a backup goalie. I'd also be happy making the Rangers cap situation a lot worse
