Dreger also said just yesterday that it would take a massive deal for Montreal to part with Anderson and Dreger is a major Leafs homer, so that tells you how good the deal has to be.

MTL already declined a 1st for Josh Anderson without retention, so MTL aren't retaining, would take more than a 1st round pick and Foegele is negative value. Underwhelming offer in our GM eyes
I feel obliged to let my fellow Habs fans know that Dreger/Lebrun's rumor/statement simply says that a team offered a 1st for Anderson and Hughes declined but it doesn't mention anything else. This is clever writing by Lebrun because he's not lying, a team probably did offer a 1st but there were strings attached which is why Hughes probably declined.....
It doesn't mention anything about a cap dump being returned as part of the package nor if there was retention needed by MTL. Literally no team in the playoffs right now has cap space to add Anderson's full cap without either sending some back or Habs retaining. So what, the Ducks offered a first for Anderson? Chicago? Buffalo? All currently lottery picks..... Come on now.
So, did a team offer
Mystery 2023 1st round pick
for
Anderson
or
BOS 2023 1st round pick
Mike Reilly
for
Anderson (50%) retained
My guess is the latter. Im a Habs fan and if a team offers a 1st for Anderson straight up, no strings attached, Hughes should be fired for not accepting. They would have accepted had that been the offer by itself but it cleary wasn't.
