Id rather the Leafs not empty the farm for either and just pick up better depth like Domi or even take a chance on Boeser. If the big 4 can't get it done, adding Horvat or Kane won't change anything.

Horvat can play C, is having a much better season, is younger and significantly better defensivly. He also doesnt have a long long long history of personal issues both inside the dressing room and in his personal life

Ignoring cost of acquisition, if Horvat is playing 3C then would rather have him than Kane. I don't see Kane-Matthews-Nylander being a good fit or Bunting-Tavares-Nylander, so there aren't many options on where you can put Kane. Also, bringing in Kane would have bigger complications than Horvat, I don't see how they keep Kane off PP1, so who will be removed? Nylander of course, and he already gets the short end of the stick, so maybe he decides not to stick around past next year.

Horvat easily if they cost the same to get. However if available ORielly intrigues me the most. I mean, he won a Conn Smythe fairly recently.

My opinion has changed recently - rather than going after a top rental (Horvat or Kane for example), I think Leafs would better served getting a few guys that could contribute on bottom 6.
No room on our PP and we don’t really need anyone on top 2 lines; Matthews / Nylander /Bunting set and JT / Mitch can play with anyone. Maybe Knies can play a role, so I’d focus on a barbashev type + a Hathaway type; acquisition cost should be a lot less as well.

still a very well established high end player, not too old, playing on a team that as a whole has been bad. And *bad* is a stretch like by his standards yea but still a considerable upgrade at 3C. Rough start but I wouldn't be worried about his drive and play on a contender in the role we'd be asking him to play

Blues have been bad because of ROR, not in spite of him. When one of your top 2 way guys is not getting it done either way it's a drastic effect.

If ROR were cheap, very cheap I would consider it.
