I don't think I've watched a single Preds game this season, is there a reason Fabbro would be available for the Sens? has he not been as good as expected? Because from what know of him from last year, the Sens should be jumping on that

I like Thomson a lot, so I could be overvaluing him. To me, Fabbro is worth a late first, so a good 2nd and decent prospect are worth around that value. I should add that the entire Preds right side has underperformed, not just Fabbro alone.

I get the age argument, but you lose me with contract and position. COL needs centers and Granlund produces well and could fill a 2nd line role. He has shown no signs and is only 30, so contract isn’t an issue. I’d even say that Granny has lived up to his contract better than Girard

Both players have the same cap hit. After this season, Granlund has 2 more years. Girard has 4. Top 4 defensemen have more value than middle 6 forwards.

*Top 6 forwards. In all seriousness though, Girard is underperforming and has not been playing like himself for a hot minute. That probably means you should be changing D pairings or exploring trade options. Granlund fits your need and has a low cost for what he brings. Girard, as of now, is not performing up to his contract. It helps both teams. The point you had about young D men being worth more than forwards is very true, but I think that even with it factored in it is a fair trade. I could probably take out the extras, but it’s always nice to get some insurance pieces and to recoup picks. One question though: would you be interested in a Fabbro for Girard swap with picks going to COL? The two players have had equal production this year, but Girard definitely has the higher peak.

Girard for Fabbro++ is probably more interesting than most posts on here, no idea how large the sweetener needs to be though. It’s been a while since I watched the Preds intently.

It’s not even close. Cmon man. Granlund doesnt get a first pair caliber D with an awesome long term contract.

Fabbro probably get another bridge deal. Maybe around 3m. Fabbro and a high pick (2023 2nd) for Girard seems ok. Preds may have to add a bit (like a 3rd or prospect?)

Granlund has a pretty good contract too. About a million below market value. He’s on pace for 65+ points and has a good two way game. Girard is a young D man with a long-term deal, that hasn’t had a great past season and a third. It’s not all that far off

Not great for him is still wildly outperforming his contract.

Just look at the Avs long-term outlook. Granlund is 30 with 3 years left, usually, there are guys like that who can be signed as FA for 5m, but not guys like Girard who are 24 who can be signed for 5mx4. These are two proven players, so trying to offset it with Fabbro isn't sufficient because he's the same age and not as established as Girard. Girard is just as likely to regain form as Granlund is to deplete at the end of that contract or cost more.

Finally, the AVS could just choose to trade Toews next season for a C with a more favorable contract than Granlund. Or if they extend Toews, they could choose to trade Girard+ for C of his age.
