Gonna need a 1st if you want Jensen. This implies Washington is selling, which means they will have no need for Suter and a 3rd isn't at all enough for a top 4 defenseman with great stats and overall great play. Either a 1st, or maybe a 2nd with a good prospect, but likely you'll have to pay a 1st for Jensen.

Not really seeing this as an Yzerman move. I also don't see Ottawa taking Vrana. While I hope he gets ALL the help he needs why does Ottawa take him on right now? Jensen cost more .

That offer wouldn't even get you DeBrincat's autograph.

Take a look at what we gave Chicago for DeBrincat and then go from there.

Try again.

I'm sorry, a 1st for Jensen? Is your brain okay?

Jensen is a fine 3rd pair Dman (one that we drafted) on a UFA contract....he is not returning a 1st.

I like Vrana, but dude can't stay healthy. If Ottawa is trading DeBrincat (they definitely shouldn't imo) Vrana as a key piece is an absolute non starter. Also Maatta isn't a needle mover for Ottawa, at most he's their 3rd best LHD.

He may have been 3rd pair in Detroit. He’s got 1st and 2nd pair minutes consistently in Washington, has excellent advanced stats, and looks even better on the eye test. He’s a cheap, Top 4 defenseman with reliable, consistent play.

Anyone who’s seen Jensen since coming to Washington would see the same, he’s easily worth a 1st.

Don't comment on things that you haven't kept up with in the past ~3 years.

Jensen is a top 4 puck moving RHD on a GREAT contract for any contending team. At the TDL, if the Caps sell, he will get a 1st (or a prospect and 2nd). He is a much improved player than he was on the Red Wings.

Sens don't do that, not close.

It could work IF :

- Vrana wasn't always injured or dealing with problems

- Maatta was a RD and had term left at that AAV. He's also a bit slow

I have no idea if Jensen returns a 1st or not but don't question somebody's brain that fast

Jensen is good and by the way, he has the 2nd highest ES TOI/GP on the Caps and 3rd in all situations (only Carlson and Orlov play more). Looks like their #3

I kinda hope the Sens would be able to sign him for 3 years next off-season. If Zub is re-signed and they add Jensen, then you have a much more stable RD side. Only need to fix the coaching staff part

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Jensen
Brannstrom - JBD
cheap vet

I definitely agree that Jensen could do well in Ottawa. I personally hope the Caps bring him back on a 1-2 year deal, as I think he’ll do well to mentor Iorio and be a good bridge to the future RD for Washington.

Sanderson already carries Travis Hamonic into respectability (good advanced stats)

I have been a Jensen fan since the days when he was stuck in the AHL for 3+ years while Holland was paying Kyle Quincey and Ian White (that's being gentle). I know exactly how good a player he is.

He will not fetch a 1st round pick.

His stats have only gotten better since this post, he'd be making 1.25 against the cap with 50% retention, and he can play any pairing competently. If he's not worth a 1st, I don't know what is.

@Datsyukian13 Seems like someone hasn't been keeping up with him all that well... wink

But I get it - he was on the Wings a long time ago. Players improve ya know

LOL Norris finalist...oh my.

This feels very similar to when Jensen was a UFA and people were saying he's gonna get $5M a year and I laughed in their face, only to be exactly correct with his next contract.

Like I said, a FANTASTIC skater and VERY GOOD defenseman and very underrated. Still not getting a 1st and not a Norris finalist LOL

Wow! Good job on predicting his exact contract! What was that - 4 years ago?

Long time since you have kept up with Jensen. Anyways, done with this conversation - stats don't lie, buddy

Of course he'll never be a Norris finalist (that's more a tongue in cheek comment)

But not sure why you're insisting with confidence that he will not return a 1st guaranteed

I mean, Ben freaking Chiarot got a 1st

Sens have added a lot of young talent over the last few years but I feel Sanderson will be the biggest difference maker. I see him as a Heiskanen/Slavin level guy

He'll turn any D-man into a better one and he'll tilts the ice whenever he's on. I mean, he's already doing some of that at 20 while playing 21 mins a game with a 3rd pairing D-man
