Columbus can't afford Tavares. They had to trade Bjorkstrand for a ham sandwich just to fit Gaudreau in.

Columbus doesn't have the cap space for John Tavares, nor would he waive his NMC to go there.

Nashville, Chicago and Vancouver all pass, And it's hardly close.

I'm not sure Nashville passes. In that deal they get a good bit of value for Ekholm there and they free up much needed cap space. I don't think Ekholm would be moved, but it isn't a terrible offer.

Really bad. Muzzin retires? Tavares waives his MMC to Columbus of all places. Leafs get two expiring contracts so next season they Ekholm but lose a years worth of picks, Sandin, Niemela, Tavares Robertson and Knies

Kypreos just said the Leafs are close to acquiring the ham sandwich.

I could see the Preds trading Ekholm in the off-season, when NSH will need to shed some salary for next summer's RFAs. If the Preds continue to lose, it could happen sooner. With no trade protection and the dearth of decent UFA defensemen that'll be available, Ekholm seems like a prime trade candidate.

This wouldn't be my ideal return for Ekholm, but I wouldn't hate it.

They would probably have to trade future considerations to get it tho

Yeh mcd has trade protection. Josi isnt going anywhere. Fabbro and carrier are our only nhl ready rhd. Lauzon is affordable at 3rd pairing with room to grow. Ekholm is a prime trade candidate and i think sandin has alot of room to grow. Lauzon plays right side with sandin on the left. Hopefully sandin continues to grow and overtakes mcd. Im ok with this trade. Opens up space and gives us a competent lhd back
