why not? well you also have to take into consideration that goodrow is a dump, with an awful contract, and Kane and panarian reunited has to be intriguing for nyr gm

Goodrow isn’t a dump 😂 also his contract was structured for a buyout so it’s nothing to worry about for NYR. Kane is worth 2 1sts roughly as a rental plus sign and trades don’t happen in this sport(Tkachuk was the first and only).

5 years for a 30 y old player at 3.6 who can play only on the 4th line... with all the guys you have to sign... you will be forced to dump him

The Athanasiou and Domi don't happen as they are not worth a 2nd round pick.

depends on the season they have... and who they trade with... with domi I could easily see him doing well and a team that is willing to spend 2nd round pick for him.

with athanasiou it's harder sure they might get a 3rd instead

not a make or break situation

He plays up and down the line up. As for signings and needing to move him, someone will take him without us having to “dump” him at a cost. He plays all positions, up and down the lines, very physical, 2 rings so far… many teams will take him. And the cap will be 88+ in 2 years

-Rangers are under the cap and don't need to do a cap neutral trade; I also can't see them moving two roster players for one. You'll get a prospect & a 1st coming back for Kane with a 3rd team getting a mid-round pick for double retention.

-Domi double retained down to $1.325M cost Carolina a 6th & a mid-tier prospect. I don't see his value jumping up to a 2nd/4th at the same price point one year later unless he takes a huge, unexpected leap.

-Athanasiou with a healthy year could hit this level of return, and it would admittedly be hilarious to see Edmonton swinging another deadline trade for him. Health is the key though - he put up 17 points in 28 games last year (so about a 50 point pace) but needs to be on the ice producing to get something back.

-I think Johnsson is in the Dmitry Kulikov "trade him for FC" boat at this point - still a useful enough player that you don't have to pay to dump him, but expensive enough that you can't get back anything for him.

-Not sure on the Backstrom health situation, so will defer to Caps fans on his value, but I think they'd do something like this if they need to clear cap. If Backstrom comes back around TDL, though, Eller can probably be sent to a wider pool of teams based on accrued cap space at that point - ie, more teams will have the ability to fit him under the cap then than can do it now. Follow-up trade is probably selling low on a retained Eller - probably could get a 3rd back for him retained straight up.

-Toews would need to really rebound this year to get anywhere near this return. I said it in a different thread, but JT Compher basically matched his offensive production last season while also providing more value defensively, *and* he costs only $3.5M against the cap. Unless Alex Newhook falls in a manhole or something, I can't see Colorado moving their 2023 1st for what would basically be a lateral move.

Doubt that Backstrom gets healthy before the year ends, especially considering that Washington went out and got another center instead of doing the move everyone expected, which was to dump Eller. Should he return ahead of schedule (or at all), then this seems reasonable.

Kane isn't worth that much... NYR might go after him for the playoffs when he would get:

      To CHI:
      Vitali Kravtsov
      2023 NYR 1st*
      2023 COL 3rd

      Conditions:
If NYR reach the Stanley cup finals the 2023 1st turns into Dallas' 2023 first.

      To ARI: 2023 5th NYR

      To NYR:
Patrick Kane (at 75% retention: CHI 50% retention, ARI 50% of what remains)

He is a rental... He will walk in the offseason! If you want an extra pick in this year's first round and help boost your rebuild with another top prospect this is the best you will get...

exactly. ken holland. that's the reason.

Ken Holland is exactly the reason this isn't going to happen. He already traded for Athanasiou, was underwhelmed and left him unqualified to walk in free agency. Besides, since than Holland has added LW's Hyman, Kane, Foegele and Holloway. He's not going to pay anything for Athanasiou.
