Comparing Batherson to Barzal is a classic example of fans being unable to look at the full picture. Batherson plays on a line with Norris and Tkachuck and he’s found success there. But Barzal’s microstats are among the best in the league and they have been for years. That being said the isles might have had the worst top line wingers in the entire NHL last year.
Even Arizona had Keller and Schmaltz…. The isles have the ghost of Zack Parise. You aren’t gonna produce as much with Zack Parise on your wing…. Not sure how people don’t get that.
I see also Anders Lee, Josh Bailey, Kyle Palmieri...

Batherson was an offensive dynamo last season, it's Tkachuk and Norris who were lucky to play with him
Comparing Barzal to Batherson is a classic example of fans being unable to look at this ONE "
microstat"> :
Batherson : 5 years x $4,975,000
Barzal : 1 year x $7,000,000 (salary $10,000,000 which is far from ideal for a market like Ottawa) then RFA where he will make close to the DOUBLE of what Batherson makes. Let that sink in
Trading one of the biggest bargains in the NHL for the next 5 years to add yet another big contract that won't fit in the salary structure going forward would be extremely stupid.
Plus Sens need a PPG Right Winger wayyyyy more than a PPG center (even if it was years ago)
I have seen this movie a million times in the last 3 decades. People overrate name recognition like crazy, expect killer returns on every big name and when the reality happens, it's never even close to their deluded expectations. Funny movie though
