That’s an underwhelming offer for Toews but MTL aren’t the team who would want Toews going forward
If we didn’t have Matheson, yes we would jump on that. But Matheson got terms and we have a lot of good young LHD coming up

Underwhelming offer for who? A mid-late 1st + 3C + bottom 6 B prospect seems like fair value for a top pair LHD pending UFA. If anything it's low for Colorado.

And you'd seriously say no to Toews because you have Matheson?! Lol just trade Matheson somewhere if your prospects are ready to take over.

I would do it and move out Eddy at the deadline, he would have the most value and doesn't really fit our window anyway

I think he meant underwhelming for the avs, but i think for Colorado having him for this season is more valuable than evans a good prospect and a 1st ... teams like Colorado pay like this for rentals so why would they give him away if they already have him

Avs would only move Toews because they need capspace for Byram, MacKinnon, Meyers, and Newhook, and at that point having 3 LHD's earning big money would be too much of a luxury.

I figured that they'd get capspace, a solid 1st round pick, and then a couple of guys in Evans and Heineman who could contribute right away or fairly quickly to their 3rd line on cheap deals which would be important as Avs wouldn't have much capspace and don't have many good prospects who can take over in the bottom 6 (unless Foudy/Kaut/Olausson/etc buck the trend of the Avs being bad at developing role players.

The habs wpuldnt do that trade simply because toews does not fit the habs window and the trade actively hurts the timeline.

Toews with an extension has to fetch more than Lindholm did. This doesn't get there.

That’s immensely underwhelming for a top 10 dman, I mean MTL got Chiarot to return that 1st, a 4th and an ok prospect. That’s this trade swapping the 4th for Evans. I would fully expect a return of Toews to be significantly better especially with an extension in place. But at least you got the 2C right😏

Toews will be an UFA in 2024 so unless he's willing to extend at a reasonable caphit the Avs may not be able to afford him long term, making Girard the logical one to keep. I'd love to keep Toews instead though.

Yeah you're probably right. I undervalued Toews, partly because Florida's 1st could be late teens rather than late, partly because I don't know how much Evans is worth, and partly because I value Heineman a lot (to me he's like the next Lehkonen stylistically).

      How about FLA 1st + Heineman + Evans + Guhle/Harris/Beck then?

I haven't thought about this extensively btw, just playing with the idea and seeing feedback from both sides.

Am I reading this right? Col trades a '24 1st, Toews and Olausson for Heineman, Evans and a late '23 1st. At the tdl, before a playoff run. I don't think I would trade Olausson alone for that return.

      No.

Olausson + 1st is moved to (any team) at the TDL for whatever pieces the Avs need then. Probably not to Montreal as MTL have nothing of note the Avs would want for that package.

Not sure the Habs are the best partner. I think you were on hiatus, but there have been a couple Toews (extended) to Florida for Lundell proposals. That's super interesting. I think LA could make sense too. Something like Anderson, 2023 1st, Turcotte... Haven't totally thought that one through either, but they have a lot of pieces they can give up for the right guy.

IMO this proposals doesn't take into account the state of MTL's franchise. They're rebuilding, and Toews doesn't fit the age group.

I think Newhook is the best option it might take a season to adjust but its still a lot better than resigning Kadri. With the Toews trade could that really happen the man crush between him and Makar is strong. You might find a better player to put there but I doubt you can better the chemistry that the 2 have.
