i think the only way michkov falls lower than 2 (or maybe even 3 if fantilli goes 2) is if a team that looks like they can win the cup in the two years after michkov's draft gets the second pick (or third). otherwise he has to go top three i think

This tournament isn’t done (usually it’s 1+4+5+8+9 in Group A and 2+3+6+7+the new team in Group B), and it isn’t even based off of the round robin this year, or Canada and Finland woulda been in the same group again lol. It seems like it was done purely subjectively.

Yeah, seems like it was. The only reasoning given was (courtesy of ProHockeyRumors.com): "As the IIHF maintains its no-relegation policy due to COVID, the groups were able to be determined on short notice prior to the conclusion of the delayed 2022 tournament." 🤷‍♂️
