PLD trade compared to Eichel trade

Créé par: LIRIK

Description
Eichel got a top prospect (Krebs), a 2nd liner (Tuch) protected 1st and a 2nd.

PLD for a top prospect (Barron), 2nd liner (Dvorak) and a high 2nd (MTL 2023 2nd) should be enough.

I know Habs fans don't want to give Barron, but if that's what it takes to get Dubois, who is as good as Suzuki, then do it.

I added Hoffman for a 3rd because MTL need cap space for this trade to happen. Could be Armia.

You forgot to make the trade.

You also forgot that PLD isn't anywhere close to the player eichel is

I didn't say he was/wasn't, but the entire premise of this ACGM is that he's using the Eichel trade as a comparable. I'm not saying it would be a good or bad trade, just that it's not comparable.

I'm using it as a comparable, and made a few change due to the difference in players value.

The biggest change you made was leaving out the 1st round pick in return. That by itself is enough to account for the difference in player skill.

If you add a conditional 1st to this trade, then you could argue that the trade is similar, with a bit taken off from each piece due to the skill/value disparity.

As it stands, Winnipeg loses this deal and it's not really close.

Given the fact Eichel had neck surgery and hasn’t lived up to his potential? It’s a toss up for me personally.

Thats like comparing Dvorak to Malkin

Oreilly is PLD comparable
Both asked for 2 trades from 2 teams early on
Both good Centers to this point viewed to be underachieving
Unlike Oreilly though PLD couldnt buy a faceoff win and isnt a complete player

He's a Goal Scoring Power Forward though so that is not common and has value too
I call Oreilly's Elite Level Faceoff Skills vs PLD Power Forward Skills about a wash

You're looking at a similar trade to what Oreilly got
Somewhere inbetween what he got in COL and what he got in BUF

In no way does PLD deserve to ever be considered in the top 15 NHL Centers
That's just a non starter for me as he's never proven he can be top 6 Center Consistently let alone top line or top 15 in the NHL

Winnipeg will lose every trade involving Dubois. Brisson just got out publicly stating that Dubois want to play for Mtl. There numerous reports that he want and will sign in 2024 if he doesn’t get traded there. He wanted to be in Montreal in 2020-21 when he asked for a trade. Now any team who gave up assets for him basically pay for a rental player. Cheve lost all is negociation leverage. He will have to settle for something less then he would want in return. Personally i would keep him thru out the year and bargain in at the deadline to try to maximize the return. But Hugues won’t trade any top prospect for him. Pretty sure that anyone name Guhle, Mailloux, Farell, Roy, Xehkaj and all of the 2022 draft class are all untouchable pieces.
Montreao still have some really good prospect, Riley Kidney habe been fantastic this year. He’S been progressing every season and will make a strong push for u20 canada team this year. Kostenko had a very strong finish in the VHL and fantastic playoffs. Ylonen is another interesting pieces since he is NHL ready, have tremendous speed and a good offensive instinct.
Winnipeg will lose almost everytrade in the present but could very well it a homerun with a prospect or the pick they would get. Montreal wanted Glass in the Pacioretty deal, Mtl had to settle for Suzuki and look at what happened. Prospect are prospect some of them turn all star and some just take a sniff at the NHL.

Again, not suggesting the actual trade value for the player, just that the trade as listed is in no way comparable to the Eichel trade.

Good cause i see PLD as more of a Martin Hanzal but got to play on better teams(not by much)
That said Hanzal strength as a Power Forward was his Faceoff Ability
PLD strength is he's a goal scorer first then a Power Forward
That said where PLD is strong Hanzal is weak and visca versa

Their value is still similar though based on the fact neither is consistent enough to be called a 2nd line center undisputed
Instead they're middle 6 Centers who due to inconsistency play mostly a 2nd Center Role with PP being where their minutes stack up.
I was thinking about the Oreilly comparison earlier and realized it gave PLD too much credit just because i was drawing a connection to both demanding 2 trades before 25yrs old

Could PLD be better?
100% absolutely
Will he ever reach his Ceiling ?
Absolutely not IMO

He doesnt value expanding his skillset as a center
Therefore when his goal scoring dries up as it s does with all players
His value drops hard and fast with no secondary skillset to help him retain value

That's a pretty rough comparison. Hanzal maxed out at 16g and 40p in his career. Dubois has eclipsed those totals in every season he has played in so far, except the 2020-21 season when he missed half the year due to injuries.

I'd agree that O'Reilly has an advantage over PLD, but PLD is a significantly better hockey player than Hanzal ever was.

Me ? I Dont
MTL? He's French
Hughes? He's a Power Forward

Hughes team's design is big and slow
He's hoping to keep the Speed limited to the wing
D and Center he's looking to get 6'2 or over +
The closer to 6'2 he's been getting 200lb skaters atleast
The guys who are taller vary in size and skillset depending on postion

His focus though is big as come playoffs size will always matter
Its why despite all the rumors about Anderson he's kept saying "only if its a Really good offer" same as he did Toffoli so an Overpay
Its also why despite fans and media jumping down Armia's throat that Hughes has remained a consistent fan of his even at his Cap

Its boring hockey to watch a lot of the time
But as long as the right Skilled players are there it can be fun IF they draw penalties and dont take many

Given the low cost of Puljujarvi as EDM tries to move his contract
I'd much rather put Dach with Puljujarvi and Anderson
Sounds like a solid #2 option behind Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield

We'll just need Hoffman to go so our Bottom 6 can handle most of the assignments outside the OZ
