Petry gets us

Créé par: MONSTER1974

Description
Jeff Petry wants out, it’s no secret. Consider the following stats:
68gp 6g 21a 27pts -11

Under Marty St Louis:
30gp 5g 16a 21pts +/-0
Prorated to 82 games: 13g 43a 56pts

Sure he makes a lots of money, but he’s a good defenceman.

What does a defenceman who gets 40ish points per season at 6.25M$/yr for 3 more years fetch?

I really think a late 1st round pick is a reasonable ask for that kind of player.

I think PIT at 21 could be a decent option as an attempt to replace some of Letangs offensive numbers.

If it came down to a small retention in salary (maybe 1M$), could that get the deal done, or even get a better pick… like DAL at 18?

If it’s true 5-6 teams are going after Petry, MTL could get a decent return. But I don’t see it even if Petry is good. It would be something underwhelming IMO

Lebrun reporting multiple teams are interested including the Stars and Wings.

It would be an idea to grab that Stars 18th pick, Pens 21st or Capitals 20th pick then combine with the 26th and 33rd to move into the top10.

Drafting a Kemell or Yurov would be ideal as both could top Cooley and Wright with their potential ceilings.

Though I still think there’s a good chance that Snuggerud or MiroShnichenko is available at 26th so I don’t think it’s worth it!

I’d prefer for a top prospect like Ty Dellandrea or a 2023 1st

They’ll just keep him then. He’s signed 3 years at a decent number when guys like Klingberg are going to get the bag this off-season

This is the same stuff I heard at the TDL and so many were wrong. Kulak got a 2nd and you don’t think Petry can get a 1st?

Petry a RHD top 4 with 4 straight years of 40+ points production. Unless, you are in NHL management that is quite the contrarian take.

Precisely what every single non-habs ACGM on here said about chiarot, and yet he returned even more than the most biased MTL fan expected

I posted a 2nd and a 4th for Chiarot to the Panthers. Not one positive reply. My favourite was Zito is an analytics GM so he wouldn’t trade anything for crap at verbatim. Ppl here hate on everything much easier than being positive

Rentals at the deadline are different than guys that old making 6+ million dollars for 3 more years. I think he's a fine player but even your own GM said they aren't using futures to move him which is a good indication that there isn't much market and hes not expecting great offers.

Of course. They should go after young players and prepare the team for a future window in 2 to 3 years.

Im not shocked a rental at the deadline got an inflated value, it happens all the time. This isn't exactly the same thing.

At the TDL, the mantra was no one pays for UFAs, it changes every year. That’s revisionist history to say otherwise. It was a sellers market this past TDL.

Petry has cost certainty which every GM wants to sell to its owner. 3 years isn’t an eternity for a 34 years old D that isn’t declining. He’s had 4 straight 40+ seasons in his 30s
Ppl make it sound like Mtl is moving him for any other reason than Petry asked to be dealt. He’s not, he wanted out. He said it in plain English and Hughes responded in kind.

LeBrun said "I'm told Detroit is a potential destination." I'm sorry but he won't even take ownership of a very general statement. The only reason Detroit is in the conversation is because Petry is from Detroit.

Most of the Habs fans that are saying Detroit is going to give up a kings ransom for Petry are the same ones that were saying Detroit should trade Larkin and Bertuzzi because they don't fit Detroit's timeline. So how does a 34 year old dman fit Detroit's timeline???????

Only problem is his age. He will be 35 halfway through the 22-23 season and will still be under contract as a 37 year old. Hes a good D man but you arent paying for what he has been, youre paying for what he will be as a 34-37 year old

his age is a huge issue that i don’t feel the habs fans are considering enough. 6.25mil for 3 years for ANY 34+ year old save crosby or bergeron is a huge gamble. if petry’s choosy about where he wants to go, i don’t see a pick that high being included. klingberg’s 30 and dallas already doesn’t want to give him the big deal he wants, what makes you think they’ll do this for petry?

It is exactly the same thing. It's internet GMs thinking they know more about the business side of hockey than those who are getting paid real dollars to do the job...

but what they’re most worried about are those final years when he’ll be 34-38, which are literally the only years they’re getting with petry

100%, but why avoid one bad contract just to add a different one? they’re better off using that pick to get one of the d-men in this draft, dallas has been really good at the draft as of late
