This good be a very good move for everyone. NJ gets a first line winger, and also a top pair D for the future. Columbus gets a higher pick. And MTL gets their quality offer for Anderson.

Except this is not the rumor, this is your altered version of the rumor.

Montreal is not trading Josh Anderson to move to 12th and miss out on one of Nemec or Jiricek. If that is the case they keep Josh since they already turned down good offers for him according to both Serevalli and LeBrun.

EDIT** going to correct the first part since it was pointed out on another thread that it was a random twitter user who posted the trade involving Anderson and the reporter just linked it, that is my bad for misreading it. I actually deleted my thread because of it.

The rumor is that there are trade talks between NJ, CBJ & MTL. It is also mentionned that NJ are interested in Anderson.
Realistically, you can’t fetch a 6th overall pick with Anderson.

MTL have enough draft pick and prospect value to move this 12th up in the draft afterwards.

I'm not sure if you have a problem with him calling anderson a 1st liner or the trade itself

    In the draft pick value chart I use, #2 + #37 = #6 + #9
    In the draft pick chart recently published by @NHLfan10506, #2 + #37 = #6 + #8 + a second-half fourth

I don't think that Anderson is worth the 8th or 9th overall pick in this year's draft, so I think that New Jersey is getting stiffed.

I would still expect something more than 2OA and a second to be coming back to Columbus for 6+12. I'd rather stand pat with two in the top 15 than just either one of the top two picks in the draft.

Wasn’t the rumor Laine and 6 ending up with NJ?

Either way, acquiring Josh Anderson would immediately be a loss in any deal

The trade that makes sense to me if all these high picks are involved and New Jersey actually wants Anderson is:

    To Montreal #12 and #44
To New Jersey #6, Anderson, a prospect from Montreal and a depth player from Columbus
    To Columbus #2 and #26

Whether there is a prospect from Montreal and a roster player from Columbus that balances this enough is up to debate.

Jackets would have to be getting an absolute boatload back to give up that much. The #2 alone wouldn't come anywhere near cutting it.

The deal falls apart if Montreal doesn't get 6th, the only reason they would move Anderson is to be able to draft either Jiricek or Nemec. If they can't get one of them they keep Anderson.

Jiricek or Nemec are nowhere near locks to be available at #6. Anderson also was barely worth #6 back when he was 25 and coming off a 27g 20a season. Now he's 28, has multiple injuries in the last 3 years and has not come close to surpassing the 50 point mark. His 14 points in 54 career playoff games is also far from the playoff performer that I've been seeing him labeled as today. If the Canadiens can manage to get 12th OA out of trading him now they should absolutely take it and run. I don't get how Habs fans are this out of touch with his value.

I personnaly used the draft pick value chart of the Athletic and 2nd + 37th vs 6th + 12th was approx equal.

I never said that they would be available but we can't get to 4 without getting 6th. Also I never said Anderson alone was worth 6th, obviously Montreal needs to add like a 2nd or half decent prospect. Anderson can get 10-15 alone though especially in this draft.

It gained traction because there was another guy who also reported the rumour too independently a bit before that guy.
